March 3, 1939 – July 19, 2023
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Emily Annie Kovacs on Wednesday July 19th, 2023 in her 84th year. Predeceased by her beloved husband of 40 years, John Leslie Kovacs Sr. (April 1, 1999) and cherished son John Frank Kovacs Jr. (September 28, 2015). Emily is survived by her much-loved daughter, Evelyn (Kovacs) Salhani of London, Ontario.
Emily was predeceased by parents Mike Balazs, Isabelle (nee Szorodi, Balazs) Fulop, and stepfather Frank Fulop. Emily is survived by her loving daughter-in-law Lena Kovacs, of Tillsonburg. Lovingly remembered by her proud grandchildren: Travis Kovacs (Linda Pham); Nicole Kovacs (Kevin Stuyt), Jason Salhani and pre-deceased infant grandson John Earl Kovacs Jr. (1988) and survived by Nicholas Bartsch; Henry Bartsch Jr; Rebecca Lamanna; and two special great-grandchildren Lucas and Hunter Stuyt. Also survived by her siblings: Mike Balazs (Donna), of Ilderton; Victoryn Zlatinszky (late Tibor) of London; Frank Fulop Jr., of Tillsonburg; Sue Fulop (Jeff Rosser),of Thorndale. Loving Aunt to Scott Balazs, Richard Zlatinszky (Natalie); Lynda Ivanisevic (Will), Margaret Bowman (Jim), Isabelle Mogck (Terry), Susan Rumble (Greg) and pre- deceased Joseph Godo Jr. Emily is also mourned by great-nieces, great-nephews, godchildren and cousins. Emily is predeceased by her dear friend and companion of 17 years, Larry Vantyghem of Langton (2020) and her dear sister and brother-in-law Isabelle and Joseph Godo of Langton. Emily is also survived by her many wonderful friends who cherished her each day, especially by Betty Chanyi (Port Rowan) and close extended family Dan and Barbara Formanek (Long Point) and Ron Yantho (Turkey Point). Her Godchildren have always looked up to Emily who provided her steadfast stability, love and guidance throughout their lives: Cindy Gignac, Jayne Smith, Sara Yantho and Diane Szalkai.
Emily was an amazing lady and role model. She was well respected and loved her family and friends with all her heart. She was a gentle soul who displayed great integrity, compassion, elegance, and the ability to see the positivity in life. She never allowed age or illness to dictate her outlook and always believed in making the most of each day. Emily had strong values of strength, perseverance and quite leadership. With her beloved husband and partner John Kovacs Sr, they operated a farming business of tobacco and cash crops, in the Langton area since 1959. Prior to farming, Emily enjoyed hairdressing as well. Her interests included a beautiful passion for oil painting and love of trees, nature and her beloved pets. She also enjoyed her many travels with her daughter and friends throughout the country and around the world.
Emily was a member of Sacred Heart R.C. Church, Langton, and the Sacred Heart Catholic Women’s League, Fairground Agricultural Society and Norfolk Heritage Committee.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Anita Singh and all the staff at London Health Sciences Centre and London Regional Cancer Program, St. Elizabeth Health Care, Home and Community Care Support Services for their compassionate care to Emily and her family.
In keeping with Emily’s wishes, visitation will be held in the Maurice J. Verhoeve Funeral Homes- Burial and Cremation Services Inc. Chapel, 262 Broadway, Tillsonburg on Monday, July 24th, between 6:00 and 8:00 p.m. A funeral service will take place on Tuesday, July 25th, at 11:00 a.m. by Pastor Ted Smith, of Courtland United Church. Catholic Rites of Committal and interment will follow in Sacred Heart R.C. Cemetery, 24 Albert St., Langton, by Rev. Fr. Seejo John. All funeral attendees are invited to attend a Sacred Heart C.W.L. reception at the Courtland Community Centre (272 Main St. of Courtland), immediately following the interment.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the “London Health Sciences Foundation” (to benefit the Baker Centre for Pancreatic Cancer) through the online tribute page at www.verhoevefuneralhomes.com or by contacting the Maurice J.
