It is with heavy hearts and sorrow the family announces the passing of Rayburn Lloyd McChesney on July 12th at the Temiskaming Hospital. Ray was born September 27, 1945 in New Liskeard to the late Guy McChesney and to the late Margaret Brown.
Survived by his wife of 54 years Huguette (nee Carriere), son Derek (Megan), grandson Hunter (Amanda) of Val Caron, son Jody of Hanmer; by his sisters Susan Haliburton (Jim) of Halifax NS, Lynn Holt (Randy) of Calgary AB, Donna Lenardon (Roy) of Creston BC. Ray is also survived by many nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. He is predeceased by his father Guy and Mother Margaret (Brown).
Ray worked 43 years as a machinist at Wabi Iron and Steel. He excelled in his trade and built many parts for family and friends. Once retired he delivered for Findlays Drug Store always enjoying the conversations with customers. Ray served on the Dymond Fire Department for 13 years, he coached hockey and baseball. He served 2 years as Director of the Temiskaming Foundation. Ray was treasurer of Steelworkers Local 4354 for 35 years, he was a member of the Tri-Town Snow Travellers for many years and served as both a Director and Vice President. He was also one of the founders of the “Monster Poker Run”.
Ray was quite the adventurer who loved to travel. Many holidays were spent traveling coast to coast to coast, in many states on either the motorcycle or in the motorhome. In addition to his traveling, Ray loved to camp with his family. He shared this passion with his wife and sons for the last fifty four years. He was also a snowmobile enthusiast who traveled many miles throughout Northern Ontario with his many friends. His biggest excitement came from speaking to or visiting his boys. Ray enjoyed meeting the guys for coffee every morning.
Ray fought Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL), heart disease and diabetes for many years. He didn’t let any of them get in the way and enjoyed life to the fullest. A quote from one of his closest friends, “Ray is my miracle friend”.
The family of the late Rayburn McChesney will receive family and friends at Our Mother of Perpetual Help, New Liskeard, on Saturday July 29, 2023 beginning at 11:00am. The memorial mass will follow in the church at 12:00pm. Inurnment will follow at the Valleyview Cemetery Columbarium. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the Heart and Stroke, Diabetes or the Chronic Lymphocytic Foundations.
