Obituary
Mom passed away peacefully in her 94th year surrounded by her loved ones at Joseph Brant Hospital. Survived by sons Peter, Timothy, and daughter Hilary Pyper (Alex). Grandmother to Jenny (Scott), Christina, and Victoria (Andrew) Frank and James (Justin). Step Grandmother to Julie Pyper (Devin). Great Grandmother to Olivia and Aunt to Ellen. Mother-in-law to Rose.
Predeceased by her sister Violet, as well as brothers Stan and Ted. Born in Hamilton, she attended Delta Highschool where she met and married her ex-husband, Paul. Eventually moving to Waterdown, Ontario, she raised her family and built her life. In 1984, she moved back to Hamilton and worked for a time at St. Matthew’s House. Helping the less fortunate was an important part of who she was. She was a regular parishioner at Christ Church Cathedral for many years. Thank you to all the staff at Caroline Place Retirement Home where mom spent her last 6 ½ years of life. Also thank you to all the amazing “angels” (nursing) on the palliative care floor who made our mother’s last weeks comfortable. Special thanks and love go out to Christina and Victoria who truly did a remarkable job advocating and caring for their grandmother.
Cremation has taken place. Friends are invited to a Memorial Service at CHRIST CHURCH CATHEDRAL 252 James St. N., Hamilton, on Friday, July 7, 2023 at 11 a.m. Private family interment to take place at Grace Anglican Cemetery. All are also invited to a Celebration of Irene’s life that evening from 7-9 p.m. at KITCHING, STEEPE & LUDWIG FUNERAL HOME 146 Mill St. N., Waterdown.
