Obituary
Baker, William Darrell “Bill” – 37, of Clark’s Harbour, passed away, June 26, 2023, at the Yarmouth Regional Hospital with his family by his side. Bill was born at the Grace Maternity, Halifax, NS. He will always be loved and remembered by parents Billy & Irene (Acker) Baker, spouse Jillian Crowell and his pride and joy, sons Harrison and Sam. Bill attended Clark’s Harbour & CSI elementary schools and graduated with distinction from Barrington Municipal High School. He went on to graduate the professional firefighter program at Georgian College, Barrie, Ontario. He was a volunteer firefighter with Clark’s Harbour & Island/ Barrington fire departments during his teens. Bill inherited the Baker travel bug and was a world traveller, and traveled with his family right up until lymphoma invaded his life! But he was always happy to get home to his Clark’s Harbour, CSI home. Bill was a true Cape Islander and loved walking with his family in the Harbour, going out to the surrounding islands & Harbour in his boat, and just soaking it all up. He also enjoyed as a child going to Seal Island with his parents and Uncle Buddy & Aunt Phyllis. He loved going to his camp and he loved his baseball Team, The Blue Jays and rarely missed a game. Bill was a very humble, old soul, and had a very dry, quick sense of humour. He loved music especially some older work. He loved the great outdoors, being active and his work as a lobster fisherman and being on the water and all it had to offer. He was a big history buff, and was very interested in the Titanic; he visited South Hampton in his teenage years and the museum there. Growing up he loved hanging out with his Dad at Bakers’ Irving, working and serving customers and loving all the characters hanging out there and life at The Garage! His favorite place traveled was Germany. He was a great father and family man. He fought a very courageous battle with lymphoma, that was thought to be curable in the beginning, but it proved to be relentless. His remissions were so celebrated and welcomed. Many were shocked by his strength, resilience, selflessness, & courage during his two years fighting lymphoma, right to the end. He never complained! He was predeceased by maternal grandparents Leslie & Gladys Acker, paternal Bill & Jean Baker, also a great grandmother Ella Acker. Bill will always be loved and missed by many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends & extended family members. Bill’s family would like to thank our family, friends and the incredible people where we live for all the care, concern & acts of kindness during his illness, he appreciated it all and was very thankful! Cremation has taken place under the direction of H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, Barrington, NS. There will be no visitation. A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, July 6, 2023, 2pm at the H.M. Huskilson’s Memorial Chapel with Pastor Shaun Hatfield officiating. The service will be livestreamed. Family flowers only by request. Memorial donations may be made to The Rosalin Nickerson Cancer Care Fund or a charity of your choice.
