Claude Evans Middleton – It is with great sadness that the family of Claude Evans Middleton announce his passing on Wed., June 28th, 2023, after a long and hard-fought battle against both two forms of cancer and COPD.
In his 78th year, Claude (aka “Bob”), was a proud veteran (having served for a tour-and-a-half as a U.S. Marine) and member of the Royal Canadian Legion (Sir Sam Hughes Branch #67), as well as an Indian Residential School survivor.
Claude was the much-beloved husband, of 47 years, to Faye Louise; dear son of the late (Delbert) James Middleton and the late (Frances) Beatrice; son-in-law to the late Wray and Olive Johnston; brother to the late Francis (Frank); nephew to the late James and Lily White; cousin to Maxine and her husband Dave Rodgers and the late Charles Hoggett, and father to: Jerry Middleton, Kevin Middleton and his wife Debby Heard, Louise Middleton, Debbie McLean, Teresa Gill and her husband Mark, and Michael Middleton and his wife Jennifer. Additionally, he was Grandfather to: Jennifer, Nicole, Tyler, Rick, Monique, Morgan, Jordan, and Great-Grandfather to Callie.
Claude will be dearly missed by his extended family including: Barbara and her late husband John Bergs, Sandra and her husband Robert Thomas, John Wray Johnston and his wife Susan, Jacqueline and her husband Dave Corp, Susan and her husband Doug Lywood, Harold Johnston and his wife Bev, Roger Johnston and his wife Lynn, Pauline and her husband Perry Crowder, and Pam Johnston and her husband Howard Nesbitt, as well as his many nieces, nephews and cherished friends.
Claude was a strong supporter of the Indigenous community and will be fondly remembered by his “brothers and sisters” from the Hillsport and Longlac areas and by his hunting and fishing buddies. One of his annual highlights was his trip back “home”, to enjoy a guys’ week, in his childhood stomping grounds, located in northern Ontario, until poor health prevented him from being able to join in.
As per Claude’s wishes, there will be no formal funeral service; however, the family will be holding a “Celebration of Life”, to honor and remember this wonderful man. This event will be held on Sunday, July 16th, from 2-5 p.m., at the Celebrations, located at 35 Lindsay Street, N.
“You fought a strong battle, brave soldier, but now it’s time for you to rest. All our love and always in our hearts. Until we meet again. XOXO”
If desired, memorial donations to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #67 or the Indian Residential School Survivors Society would be appreciated by the family. Donations and condolences may be made through Mackey Funeral Home or online at www.mackeys.ca
