On June 27, 2023 at 00:43 hrs. Bill (William Joseph) Marcoux Sr. took his final checkered flag as he raced through the gates of Heaven with family by his side. Loving husband and soul mate of Teresa (Gasparelli) for 66 yrs. Son of the late Joseph and Bernice Marcoux. Younger Brother of the late Barbara Bartlette (Don). Adored father of Debbie Maclean (Rob), Karen Marcoux, & Bill Marcoux Jr. (Lee). Loving Grandpa to Kyle (Rachel), Cody (Jamie) Montana (Fed), Sydney (Kyle), B.J. (Ellen), Mac (Dina), Avery (Liam). Great Grandpa to Brady, Tanner, Ryder, Alexa and Abby. Brother in law of the late Norma Werner (Wolfe) and Anna Dipietro (Joe). Favourite Uncle to many nieces and nephews. Bill was known as special friend to many.
Bill began his career at Algoma Steel in 1955 and married the love his life Terry shortly thereafter. He retired in 1991 after serving as Foreman in multiple areas. He loved travelling and took his family on countless road trips across most of the USA and Canada. It didn’t matter where they ventured, the hidden agenda was always to end up at a race track. Outside of spending time with family and friends, Bill’s passions included good music, dancing, old cars, hockey, and of course stock car racing. The vehicles he drove were kept in pristine shape easily recognized by the polished chrome. An avid NASCAR fan, Bill followed the career of Richard Petty #43 which became a staple number in Marcoux/Maclean household. Tracks were attended, beers were drank, new friendships were established, memories were made, and a time was had by all.
Bill instilled his love of racing into his children and grandchildren and was the driving force behind his own #43 Team2Wild racing crew. He was thrilled to watch his son Bill, and his grandkids take to the track in any type of racing event (stock cars, sleds, 3-wheelers, skiing etc. At the track, watching from TV, or live streaming, he was their #1 fan. His family was truly his biggest achievement.
Bill also loved attending the Soo Greyhound Hockey games and was a staple at every game. He enjoyed years of selling 50/50 Tickets for the Team.
With stories for days, Bill was the life of the party no matter the event. He could light up a room with his infectious smile and laugh. He loved a good joke, a good jig, a tease, and a good prank. To know Bill was to love him. He will be dearly missed by all.
On behalf of Bill, his family would like to acknowledge the excellent care provided by Nursing Staff of 3C at Sault Area Hospital over the past week. Extra special thanks to Dr. Nadia Bowen, Kent Mousseau and Stefanie Clement for your kindness and compassion. We would further like to acknowledge the excellent care he received while a patient of the Urology and the Algoma District Cancer Program and Palliative Care Team and through the Community Care Access Centre.
Respecting Bill’s wishes, a private service will take place with family. Memorial donations to the Algoma Residential Community Hospice – ARCH (payable online or by cheque) would be appreciated by the family.
