Obituary
It is with profound sadness that the family of Kayla Dawn Lavik announces her sudden passing on Friday, June 23, 2023, at the young age of 26 years old. Safe in the arms of our Lord and Saviour we take comfort in knowing her love for Jesus has carried on her journey to Heaven with love and grace.
Kayla was a loved and cherished daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece, cousin, auntie, friend, co-worker, and teammate. Kayla had the natural ability to create smiles, bring laughter, boast positivity, and assure security with the ones around her. Her genuine kindness, sense of humour and quick-witted nurturing personality will forever be some of the favourite memories that live on in the lives of all she had touched. Kayla will be greatly missed by everyone that had the honour to spend time with her.
Kayla was born on October 5, 1996, and raised in Calgary Alberta. She grew up alongside her loving older sister where they both attended Harold W Riley Elementary, Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, and School for Junior High. From there, she moved on to completing her studies and graduating from Forest Lawn High School in 2014. During her junior and high school careers, she participated in many school and community sports. She was a strong leader and captain on many of her teams, her favourite school sports being soccer and basketball during those years was also known as “The Honey Badger”. Her ultimate love was for baseball where she shared her passion with her family. Kayla played baseball for Cal-East Little League as well as Team Alberta U-17 girls out of Edmonton, where she had the opportunity to play in Nova Scotia. She was then invited to travel to Quebec with the Canadian Ladies’ hardball team when she was only 17. Kayla was an incredible pitcher and 1st baseman.
Kayla devoted her life to Jesus and served Him in all His greatness in so many ways in her day-to-day life. Kayla was loyal to her core and always giving of her time to friends and family, serving the Lord by working with missionaries to serve the homeless in Calgary’s downtown core. She always stood up for the little guy that couldn’t stand up for themselves. She loved spending time with her cousin Scott and her mom while doing the Lord’s work and taking trips to visit her extended family in BC and created so many wonderful memories.
Kayla is remembered by her loving parents, Lisa and Forrest Lavik; older sister Megan Lavik (Jake Stevenson); and nieces and nephews, Brooklyn, Remi, Bridgett, and Gunner. She is also survived by her grandmother Roberta Olson; aunts and ancles, aunt Sandy and uncle Ken Higton, uncle Ben Olson, uncle Laine and aunt Kathy Lavik, aunt Roxanne and uncle Ray Jones, uncle Harvey Stushnoff, aunt Coral and uncle Craig Griffin; Keely Lavik, as well as many cousins between both families. Kayla is deeply missed by her faithful companion Bella and her purr pal Duelly. Kayla is predeceased by many devoted family members including, great-grandma Margaret and grandpa Ben Klingspon, grandpa Joe Olson, great-granny Moojalsky, grandma Marjorie Moojalsky, and grandpa Lenard Lavik; as well as auntie Noelle; cousin Lexi; and her childhood dogs Angel and Budweiser.
