It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Allyce “Rene” Lorrene Marie Sutherland, on Thursday, June 22, 2023, at the age of 85 years.
Born August 1, 1937, to Richard and Jean Symonds, Rene grew up in Regina, Saskatchewan as the older sister to her three brothers. She later married Donald Sutherland and they had four children: Suzi (Mark), John (Linda), Moira (Chris), and Jennifer (Mike).
Rene spent many years in Sechelt, B.C. raising her family before returning to Saskatchewan. During her professional life, she was a dedicated care nurse where she cared for those around her. Rene was always trying to help others in any way she could.
She appreciated the kindness of others in her community and friends who shared her love of literature, music, gardening, cooking, and spending time with friends. She also shared her love of quilting by creating numerous quilts for her children and grandchildren so they would always have her with them. She also shared her hobbies with many close friends.
Those who knew Rene know that she was a proud grandmother to her five grandchildren Matt (Megan), Ryan (Desiree), Georgia (George), Moira, and Roy as well as a great-grandmother to Hendrix and Atlin. She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren very much.
She will be missed by her family and the many close friends who, to her, became her extended family. We celebrate the incredible fortune that she was our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She taught us the importance of loving family and caring for those around us.
The family wishes to thank the amazing friends that gave such wonderful attention to Mom in her final years.
Special thank you to All Saints Anglican Church, Reverend Ted, Dr Pierre Hanekom and the nurses and staff at the Melfort Hospital and Home Care for the kindness, friendship and comfort Mom received.
At Rene’s request, no service will be held.
