After a long and courageous battle with cancer, Antonino Zarcone passed away peacefully at home with his loving family by his side. Beloved husband of Maria (Romano) for 65 years. Loving father of Frank (Joulan), Anne Marie, Antoniette, Jerry (Amalia) and Tony (Nancy). Cherished grandfather of Frank Jr., Adrian, Julian, Sarah-Anne, Jessica, Victoria, Jonathan, Brittany, Kaitlyn, Anthony, Kayla, Zachary, Bianca, Jackson, Preston and great-grand children Zoey, Grayson, Jordan and Gage. Predeceased by his parents Francesco and Anna and in-laws Giusto and Antonietta Romano. Loving brother of the late Maria (Filippo), the late Carlo (Anna), the late Cecilia (Pino), the late Frank (Marie), Ignazia (Gaetano), Teresa (Angelo) and the late Alberto (Anna). Dear brother in-law of Rosa, the late Angelina (Nino), Joe (Cornelia), the late Santo (Gianna) and Andrea (Anne). He will be greatly missed by many nieces and nephews in Canada, Italy and the USA.
Antonino was born on January 6th, 1936, in Bagheria, Sicily. He immigrated to Canada in 1954 with only $17 in his pocket and a dream. He soon met the love of his life, Maria Romano. They married on December 8th 1957 in Hamilton, Ontario and began their family. Anthony was a strong man with a will that could move mountains. He was a Butcher by trade and opened seven successful shops in the downtown core before opening his last location on Concession Street, which would later become the start of his family’s business. As he watched his children grow, Antonino taught them the value of hard work and dedication, all while nurturing their ambition and visions. With his support, his eldest son Frank established Zarky’s Fine Foods in 1985. Frank was joined by his siblings shortly after. This was the beginning of his family’s legacy. Everything that he dreamed and worked so diligently for had come to fruition through his children.
Without a doubt, Antonino accomplished so much in his lifetime but his greatest legacy is his deep love and devotion to his wife and unwavering support of his children. You will be forever loved, remembered, and missed by us all.
We would like to extend our sincerest gratitude to Antonino’s Family Physicians, his many care givers, PSWs, nurses and the medical teams at Juravinski Hospital and all those who provided compassionate care and ensured that Antonino lived the last few years of his life with dignity.
Antonino will be resting at Bay Garden Funeral Home 947 Rymal Road, Hamilton, for visitation on Monday June 26th, 2023 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm. A funeral Mass will be held at St. Margaret Mary Church, 20 Idlewood Avenue, Hamilton, on Tuesday June 27th 2023 at 10:00am. Entombment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Mausoleum, Burlington.
