Wilson George Abraham 1926 – 2023
Wilson passed away peacefully surrounded by those he dearly loved, under his own terms during the MAID process, at Rotary Hospice Stratford Perth on Tuesday, June 20, 2023. Wilson is now reunited with his beloved wife Gwendolyn Elizabeth (nee Twigg) who predeceased him on February 21, 2020, after 71 years of marriage. He is survived by his son Bruce (Liliana) of Bogota, Colombia, daughter Diane of Hamilton and granddaughter Cynthia (Ivan) of Ottawa, Justin (Hannah) of Ottawa, Eric of Bogota, Colombia, and great grandson Mateo of Ottawa. Predeceased by his son Brian (1988) and his brother Fred (2008). Son of George Herbert Abraham and Mabel May (nee Wilson), niece Lois (David) of Toronto and Murray (Marilyn) of Fergus and sister-in-law, Betty Abraham of Guelph.
Wilson was born in a 9-bedroom farmhouse near Norwich, Ontario. He received his public-school education in Windsor and Zenda. He attended Mt. Elgin Continuation School and graduated from Norwich High School. He spent five very enjoyable years with his parents on a dairy farm near Zenda.
In 1944 he enlisted in the R.C.A.F. on his eighteenth birthday and served a short time at Manning Depot, Toronto.
After attending Windsor Business College, he worked in the office of the Dominion Experimental Station in Harrow where he noticed a tall, good looking blond who became the love of his life. On July 10, 1948, at All Saints Anglican Church, Windsor they were joined in matrimony.
He received his C.G.A. designation in 1962.
Later, he was employed as Controller of Finance at the Windsor Board of Education for 20 years before moving to Parry Sound where he was Superintendent of Business for the West Parry Sound Board of Education for 20 years.
He served on the Board of All Saints Church, Windsor, St. Leonard’s House, Windsor, Power Squadron, Parry Sound, Child and Family Board, Parry Sound. He was treasurer of Trinity Anglican Church, Parry Sound for several years and is a member of the Canadian Society of Mayflower Descendants.
Gwen and Wilson spent many enjoyable hours sailing on Georgian Bay with their friends on their 25 foot Bayfield.
Gwen and Wilson enjoyed travelling to many destinations and more recently made several trips to Colombia to visit their son Bruce. They also spent many winters in Vero Beach, Florida.
Gwen and Wilson were active members of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Hamburg.
Relatives and friends are invited to Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 23 Church Street, New Hamburg on Saturday, June 24, 2023, from 1 – 2:15 p.m. The funeral will follow at 2:30 p.m. with Pastor Leanne Darlington officiating. A private family interment will take place where Wilson will be laid to rest with his beloved Gwen in the Cataraqui Cemetery, Kingston.
