Obituary of Sandra Jean Hatfield
It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Mother, Grandmother, and Sister, Sandra Hatfield of Saint John, NB at the Regional Hospital on Sunday June 11th. Born on July 17, 1945 in Saint John, she was a daughter of the late Lawrence and Mildred (Robinson) Hatfield. In her final moments she was surrounded by her loved ones who have been by her side every step of the way over the last few years. Stephen and Debbie gave extraordinary care to their mother and are the reason she was able to live her life to the fullest. Sandra was at the center of our family and will leave a void in our lives that can never be filled. Though she is no longer with us in physical form, her love and memories will forever be etched in our hearts.
Starting her career in the restaurant industry at a young age, Sandra was always known for her dedication and hardworking ways. Sandra retired from the restaurant industry as the manager of the Fundy Line. She enjoyed her career, and it was where many lifelong friendships were made.
Sandra was a remarkable woman who dedicated her life to her family. Her unwavering love, compassion, and selflessness were the pillars that held our family together. She was everything that a mother should be. She was the one to share her tough love when it was needed and was the one that was right there to pick you up when you needed it the most. She possessed a gentle spirit, always providing comfort and support to those in need. Her warm smile and kind words brought joy to everyone around her. Her humour and laughter was infectious, she was always the life of the party and always the instigator of fun. If people were not up and dancing she would be the one cranking the tunes. Her infectious laughter and zest for life brought happiness wherever she went. She had a unique ability to make even the most ordinary moments extraordinary. Even up until the last few days she always was the one to be cracking a joke or making us laugh, no illness could hold her back from having fun.
One of the greatest joys in Sandra’s life were her grandchildren, Devon who she nicknamed Toodledumbs, and Brianna who she adored as Hound Doggie. She cherished them both and played an instrumental role in shaping their lives. Her love knew no bounds, and she always made time to listen, support, and guide them. From their earliest years to their adult lives, Sandra was a constant source of wisdom, comfort, and encouragement.
In addition to her deep love for her family, Sandra held a special place in her heart for her beloved dog. Sandra found solace and joy in the tranquility of her gardens. The gardens held a special place in Sandra’s heart, and she dedicated countless hours tending to the flowers, and plants, that thrived under her care. She had a green thumb and possessed an innate ability to bring life and colour to every corner of her outdoor oasis.
Left to mourn her passing and who will keep the wonderful memories of their mother in their hearts forever are her precious children, Debbie Hosford (affectionately known as Sweetie and her Best Friend) (Mark Breau), Stephen MacDonald (her daily companion), Cindy Arbeau (who she regularly referred to as the warden) (Daniel Osborne) and Larry Arbeau (her baby boy) (Amanda Arsenault). Sandra aka “Nannie” & “Hound Dog” will be deeply missed by her amazing grandchildren who brought the sparkle to her eyes, Devon Hosford and Brianna Arbeau. Sandra is also survived by her wonderful siblings, Donald Hatfield, Phyllis Lewis, David Hatfield (Geraldine) and Barbara London (Malcolm). She had a unique relationship with her youngest sister Barbara. Barbara will forever carry the memories, laughter, and love they shared, honouring Sandra’s legacy by cherishing their sisterly friendship. Her sister-in-law, Florence Hatfield; special niece, Amanda London, along with several other nieces, nephews and dear friends will deeply miss having Sandra in their lives. In addition to her parents, Sandra was predeceased by her life partner, Jack Orr; brother, Gerald Hatfield, sister-in-law, Margaret Hatfield and brother-in-law, George Lewis.
In keeping with the family’s wishes, a private service will be held. However, relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation which will take place on Friday, June 16, 2023 from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (506-634-7424).
For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the Saint John Regional Hospital Foundation.
