TAIT – Grant (Archie) – Grant was born on June 8th, 1949, and left this world from the Cypress Regional Hospital on June 5th, 2023. Born in Shelbourne Ontario to Cathleen and James Tait. Grant is survived by his daughter Mitzy, Son Chad, and Grandsons Jace, Jaxon and Mylan. Predeceased by his parents Cathleen and James, and siblings, Steve, Jeanie, Wilard, John, Susan and wife Sarah. Grant was born in Shelbourne, ON and grew up on the farm with his parents and 14 siblings. Grant and his friend Gordie came out west in 1967. Grant came to find Swift Current as his home when his car broke down and he couldn’t afford to fix it. Grant then later met his wife of 47 years Sarah at truck town where he whistled at her. 5 weeks and 5 days later on October 24th they were married. Grant got to work right away, working for Sigfried and son for a year and a half before moving on to Beaver Lumber building calf shelters. In 1973 Grant and Sarah started TAIT Construction. By this time Grant and Sarah had their little family as he began building his business and reputation. In 1978 Grant and Sarah moved to the farm south of Swift Current where he resided until he passed. Grants farming roots from Ontario were strong and the procurement of more land was in the Tait family future. From the additional land purchased a plan began to take shape, Country residential lots he called Valley View Acres. He then handed over the reigns to TAIT Construction selling the business to his son Chad. Grant never could quit working, so he continued to farm the land after retiring. Over the years it has consisted of Corn fields, potato patches, wintering steers to cow calf pairs, hayfields and grain farming. Not to mention the Chickens, Turkeys, Pigs and any other gardening adventures that Sarah dragged him into. Grant and Sarah loved travelling down to the states as snowbird avoiding our Canadian winters but since Grant wasn’t much of a golfer, he took up riding the desert trails in his side by side to pass the time. Once Sarah passed it took Grant a few years to find a great travel companion in Jackie Thompson, they where thick as thieves going south for winter, taking cruises and travelling the country coast to coast visiting family and friends. Grant loved his family and was always proud of all they accomplished but hearing his grandson was going out on his own and following in his footsteps with TAIT Construction brought a smile to his face. Contributions can be made to the ride for dad and the Mennonite Heritage Village in honour of Grant. A service to honor Grant’s life will be held at the Eagles Hall on Friday, June 16, 2023 at 1:30. Arrangements are in care of Parkside Memorial Funeral Home – Ryan Cappelle & Hayden Cappelle.
