Obituary of Jackie Yeo
It is with profound sadness that we announce that, in the early hours of the morning on Monday, May 29, 2023 Jacqueline Yeo (nee Lawson) passed away with her family by her side.
Jackie leaves behind her husband of 46 years, Harvey; daughter Michele; as well as unofficial nieces Janine Fussey Baxter (Craig) and Charlene Fussey Knutt (Craig) and their combined children (Jackie’s unofficial grandchildren) Scot, Kurt, Bryce, Dylan, and Lydia.
She was predeceased by her sister Roberta (Bobbie) McLachlan.
Jackie was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba to John (Jack) and Mary Lawson (nee Andrews) and grew up in the East Kildonan area of the city attending Polson School, Munroe Junior High, and Miles Macdonell Collegiate before eventually graduating from Red River College. She spent the majority of her adult life working for both the provincial government (Manitoba Health Services/Pharmacare) and the federal government (Canada Revenue Agency).
She was a lifelong animal lover (mainly cats, a quality she passed down to her daughter) and was a regular donor to the Winnipeg Humane Society. She also canvassed for the Canadian Cancer Society.
Jackie had a sharp-tongue and didn’t mince words (another quality passed down to her daughter) but you never questioned where you stood with her, she was incapable of being phony. That said, those she loved, she loved fiercely and with extreme loyalty. She maintained lifelong friendships with many neighbours from the years spent living on Adamdell Crescent in EK as well as from various workplaces. She was a devoted mother, often sending Valentine’s Day packages, Easter baskets, and other goodies to her daughter in Toronto loooong into adulthood (I’m talking into her 40s, here)
A devout clean-freak, Jackie took pride in a pristine house as well as her blooming flower beds. An avid baker, she could always be counted on to have a variety of home-baked goodies and dainties on hand at family functions along with her signature cabbage rolls. She liked movies, crossword puzzles, a cup of tea, celebrity gossip (especially involving the Royals – not a fan of Charles, by the way – yet another trait passed down to her daughter) and enjoyed trying her luck at a night out at the casino.
The Yeo family would like to thank the nursing staff at Grace Hospital for their care.
In lieu of flowers, people are encouraged to make a donation to the Winnipeg Humane Society.
A formal service will not be held, rather a more intimate gathering at a later date with close family and friends at the family home.
