Leonard «Len» Murray Ogilvie passed away at Lloydminster Hospital, Lloydminster, Saskatchewan on May 10, 2023 at the age of 87 years. Len was born January 16, 1936 in Glace Bay Cape Breton, NS.
Len is survived by: loving wife of 67 years, Shirley Ogilvie (Miller); brothers, Wilfred (Alvina) and David (Diana); children, Keith (Barb), Susan (Walter), Kay (Charles), Lynne (Alan) and Marleen; grandchildren, Terri-Lynn (Mark) Steven, Kenna (Michael), Melanie (Kyle), Gerald, Sherry, Phillip, Matthew (Karma-rae) Branden, Jenna, Miranda, and Joshua; great grandchildren, Tasha, Karli, Cael, Austin, Marissa, Lena, Trevor, Deklan, Lucas, Jackson, Hayden, Cali and Jaxx.
Len was predeceased by: his parents, Lloyd and Arabella Ogilvie of Glace Bay, Cape Breton NS.
At the age of 17 Len started his career with the Royal Canadian Air Force. During his twenty years, Len served in Gimli MB, Greenwood NS, Zweibrucken, Germany & Cold Lake, AB. Spending much of his career as an aviation Mechanic and retiring as Master Corporal. After retiring from the Canadian Armed Forces Len and Shirley purchased and operated the Stonewall Campground in Catalone, Nova Scotia. This is where they lived and raised their children and grandchildren for the next 28 years.
For 25 of these years Len and Shirl lived in their winter home in St.Cloud, Florida where they met many lifelong friends. After selling the Campground Len and Shirl moved back to Gimli, Manitoba for 10 years before moving and settling in Lloydminster, AB where they were closer to their children and grandchildren.
Len loved the outdoors. He was a terrific fly fisherman, spending much of his time on the water and metal detecting the surrounding beaches with Shirl.
Len was a loving husband, father, grandfather and will be forever in our hearts and deeply missed.
A Celebration of Life in memory of Len will be held at a later date.
Donations in memory of Len can be made to donor’s charity of choice.
