Valerie Iva Symington (nee Norris), age 94 years, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 12, 2023 at Pioneer Ridge Nursing Home.
Valerie was born January 7, 1929 in Port Arthur, Ontario to parents Lillian and Leonard Norris. Valerie was happily married to Bill for 61 years, spending their time travelling to different countries and wintering in Texas.
Valerie was always there for her family. She especially loved visiting and spending time with her grandchildren. Valerie enjoyed the outdoors, camping, fishing, swimming, and playing golf. Valerie was a huge baseball fan, cheering for the Toronto Blue Jays.
Valerie participated in many social activities at the 55 Plus Centre and volunteered there for over 25 years.
Valerie is survived by daughters Anne and Carolyn (Gerald), grandchildren Madelaine (Scott) and Jared, and great-grandson Emerson.
Valerie was predeceased by her husband Bill and daughter Lynne.
A special thank you to all the staff of Pioneer Ridge for their care and compassion they showed Valerie these past two years. It has been truly appreciated.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 18, at 11:00 a.m., with visitation held one hour prior, both at Sargent & Son Funeral Chapel. Interment will take place at Riverside Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society in her honour.
