The family of Dianne Herbert sadly announce her peaceful passing at her home in Woodstock on Sunday, December 25, 2022. Dianne was born in Lakeville and was the daughter of the late Lewis and Alma (Smith) Herbert. She was predeceased by her youngest sister, Ruth Herbert on November 10,2022. She was also predeceased by her nephew, Jason Guillery.
She is survived by her sisters: Lois Frederiske, Barbara Dingee (Brian), Margaret Guillery(Michael) and Nancy McConnell(Andy) as well as several beloved nieces and nephews; Andrew Frederikse (Kathy), Barbara Frederikse (Tim),Derek Tracey (Jill), Angela Carson (Chris), Deidre McQuade (Kevin), Jennifer Dingee (Scott), Stephen McConnell, Kaitlin Dyer(Ben),Ashley Dingee (Carl), and Megan McConnell. She was also Aunt Dianne to many great nieces and nephews.
Dianne loved to travel with family and made trips to Ontario where she worked for a number of years in Toronto, London and Wingham. She spent free time there with family and friends. However, she never lost her connection with home, New Brunswick, and especially Harvey Lake where she spent many vacations in her beloved trailer at the family cottage. Dianne loved to be included in any celebration. She loved her extended family and the times spent at family reunions. She had a gift for music and would often get the party started by strumming her guitar and singing a song for folks to sing along. She loved to dance and had a great sense of rhythm. She had a fantastic memory and was the “go to” person for family, community or world history.
Dianne accepted the struggles that life dealt her, breast cancer, diabetes and mental health issues, and lived life the best she could. She especially loved her birthday celebrations and Christmas. She loved family or friends dropping by to say hello, bring her a coffee or take her to lunch. Chances are, when you stopped by, you would see Lucy, the house cat, reclining on Dianne’s bed. She always anticipated her great niece stopping by on Halloween and had a treat bag ready for her. She enjoyed many things- an old acquaintance recognizing her and stopping to chat at restaurant, a drive in the country to see the autumn leaves or a Christmas party. A trip to the Post Office, Buntings or the Corner Store. A note in the mail, A Christmas card. The small things in life that we all take for granted, meant the world to our sister.
Dianne taught us how to give and always wanted to make the world a better place. In her younger years she would sometimes take umbrage with what was happening in the news and express her discontent with letters to the editor. She had a soft spot for the less fortunate and never failed to drop something in the bin for the Food Bank or the Salvation Army. She gave what she could.
Dianne was fortunate to be cared for by many wonderful individuals. We extend our thanks to Zoe and the staff at the Community Residential Living Board at 117 Broadway Street, family physician Dr. Stocek, and the Extra Mural nurses for their kindness, compassion and excellent care.
A Memorial service will be held in the spring with interment at the United Church Community Cemetery in Florenceville-Bristol. If you wish to make a donation in memory of Dianne, please consider the River Valley Cancer Support Group, the Carleton County Animal Shelter or the Food Bank.
Arrangements are under the direction and care of Carleton Funeral Home in Jacksonville.
