Betty Irene was born to Renee and Alan Trent on December 12, 1923. She grew up on the farm south of Pathlow with her sister Peggy and her brother Alec. She enjoyed reminiscing about attending Sacriston School by horse back and caboose, playing with the neighbouring Murray children, and family times with the Trents.
She married Ted Morton on December 10, 1940. Following the war, they lived in Pathlow and St. Brieux, finally moving to Melfort in 1956 where they resided until they moved to Saskatoon in 2008. In the Palisades, she enjoyed offering a meal and a bed to anyone who came to the city. She continued to pursue her passion for playing bridge at every opportunity.
Betty was a dedicated stay-at-home mother and homemaker who also always made time to give back to her community. She was an active member of the Anglican Church, the Anglican Church Women and the Eastern Star. She sewed clothing and mukluks, knit toques, Siwash sweaters, mitts and socks, worked with ceramics, macraméd plant hangers, gardened for flowers and food, made jams and jellies, and baked bread, cakes, cookies, and pies.
Betty and Ted never hesitated to help out someone in need and somehow, she managed to feed anyone who dropped by, even when the pantry was low.
She was always a determined lady and, in her early 50’s, Betty passed the GED Exams and successfully completed two university classes. She was truly a lifelong learner, and bought her first IPad at 93. She spent hours watching You Tube videos in search of new crafts and recipes. She was actively using it right up to the end to connect with family and friends.
Her memory will be cherished by her brother Alec (Nancy) Trent; son Neale Morton, daughters Brenda (John)Tarnowetzki and Lauri (Terry) Miller; nine grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, six great great grandchildren, and half-siblings Gordon Revey, Elaine Wallace, John Revey, and Victoria Lepak.
Betty was predeceased by her husband Ted, sister Peggy, daughter Myrna, and daughter-in-law Linda.
Memorial contributions in memory of Betty may be directed to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada and/or the Arthritis Society of Canada.
