Wallace Bernard Fahie
April 30, 1925 – April 24, 2023
Our dad, Wally Fahie passed away peacefully on April 24, 2023 in St. Paul’s Palliative Care, Saskatoon at the age of 97 with his sharp mind and exhaustive memory intact. Wally was born in East Ship Harbour, Halifax County, Nova Scotia on April 30, 1925 to Henry and Cecilia (Day) Fahie. Dad married the love of his life, Mae on November 4th, 1952.
Dad is lovingly remembered by his children Wayne (Barb), Patricia and David (Jamie) as well as his grandchildren, Krystal (Colin Jones), Michael (Caitlin Knowles), Eric, Loreen (Trevor Pettapiece) and great grandchildren.
Wally is survived by his youngest brother, Bill. Dad was predeceased by his wife, Mae as well as 8 of his 9 brothers (Aubrey, Garfield, Percy, Avery, Guy, Charles, Lloyd, Murray) and his infant sister, Irva.
Wally served in WWII with the Army and was stationed in Belgium. After the war he graduated from the first class of Electronics at Ryerson Institute of Technology in Toronto. This led to
Dad’s career with the Federal Department of Transport, telecommunications branch. His early career took him to many points in northern Canada including Resolute Bay, Chesterfield Inlet finally settling in Churchill, MB with his family from 1960-68. Dad finished his career at the Saskatoon Airport in 1982 as the T.A.M. (telecommunications area manager) for the Ministry of Transport. Retirement saw Mom, Dad and David return to Nova Scotia. Subsequently Mom and Dad moved back to Saskatoon in 1995.
Our memories of Dad are of a very competent, smart loving father. Wally could do most anything involved with construction be it as a carpenter, electrician, plumber, or painter. Wally also had a compassionate side as evidenced by his volunteering for over fifteen years at St. Paul’s Palliative Care in Saskatoon from 1996-2011. His skills as a baker came in handy when he would bake bread or cookies in the kitchen at Palliative Care knowing the “aroma-therapy” would be comforting to the patients.
We would like to acknowledge David and Jamie’s daily care of Dad which allowed him to stay in his house during the last 5 years of Dad’s declining health. As well the family would like to give sincere thanks to Dr. Andrea Johnson and Dr. Viv Walker along with their nurses and CCA’s at St. Paul’s Palliative Care for Dad’s end of life care.
Martens Warman Funeral Home are in charge of arrangements. A private internment of ashes will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
Martens Warman Funeral Home is honoured to be entrusted with the arrangements for Wallace Fahie.
