Wayne Huber
Wayne “Hub” Huber passed away suddenly at his home on Sunday, September 13, 2020. He was born in Stratford to parents Magnus and Isabel Huber. Wayne was the beloved husband of Cheryl (Mossop) for 49 years. He was the proud father of his amazing sons and their wives: Wade (Michelle) and Scott (Krystal). He was the much loved “Beepa” of his grandchildren: Ty, Ruby, Everett and Ethan. He is survived by his brother and best friend Steve (Jeannette), his sisters Jackie and Bonnie, and sister-in-law Charlene and brother-in law Brent (Mary Jane). Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Wayne lived a full life of his own choosing. Spending his childhood in rural Harmony, Ontario. He developed a lifelong love of the outdoors: hunting, fishing, trapping, trapshooting and making maple syrup. His sons and grandchildren proudly continue that love and knowledge of the outdoors. He shared his outdoor respect and knowledge with Cub Scouts and Ministers of the Natural Resources. He was recognized with a lifelong achievement award from OFMF for his contributions to the outdoors. Growing up in the ’50s, his next passion in life was cars. He built and successfully raced them across the continent. In the ’60s, he moved to Chatham to pursue his dream by racing full time and traveling coast to coast NHRA racing with The Sandy Elliot Drag Racing team. After success there, he moved to London to start the dedicated high performance car sales and service department within Central Chev Olds. This was an amazing time for his skills until the oil crisis of the ’70s. He was a pioneer and book of knowledge for the era and sport. In the ’80s, he returned to stock car racing in the East Coast division of the ACT where he was a crew chief to a championship team. As his health deteriorated, he settled in his own shop to restore some muscle cars and build a clone of his first race car for nostalgia racing and car shows. His legacy will live on with his family’s continued participation in the activities he loved and the friendships he made along the way.
Due to the Covid19 pandemic there will be no visitation or Funeral Service. A celebration of Wayne’s life will be held at a later date.
