Memorial Service will be held Saturday, November 12, 2022 at 1:00 pm from Togo Community Hall, Togo, SK. interment to follow at Togo and District Cemetery, SK.
In keeping with Vern’s wishes a funeral service will be held after harvest. Funeral information will be posted when available.
Vernon Clarence Burback passed away peacefully with family by his side at the Yorkton Hospital on August 28 2022 at the age of 82.
Vernon was born on the farm in the valley near Runnymede SK on January 26, 1940 to Alex and Mary Burback (nee Haberman). Vern is the fourth of seven children: Hilda, Melvin, Edward, Vernon, Bill, Don and Wayne. Vern attended Mylor School and Togo School, graduating grade twelve, and left his homestead with 80 acres of land. Vern started his day at 4am and worked long, hard days to build a farm for his family. Vern and Leslie Jean (nee Holliday) were married on April 12, 1975 and raised 3 boys on Jean’s family homestead: David John William, Chadwick James and Stephen Cory. Vern ran a mixed grain and cattle farm until he moved to Yorkton in 2009, although he continued to be part of the operation up to his last days. The nickname Smiley says it all for how he was viewed by his friends, family and strangers in the community. Vern loved to help his friends and neighbours with odd farm jobs, using equipment, getting the crop off, or anything else that was needed. He was always up for a challenge. Vern served on the Kamsack School Division as a board member and as board chair for a total of 21 years. Vern was dedicated to the Togo Curling Club as a board member and as the drawmaster. He loved to curl and participated in all the bonspiels in Togo and surrounding communities. Vern spent many days at auction sales, cattle sales and going to Ray-J’s at Ste. Rose to look at bulls. In his spare time, he loved to go camping, fishing with his buddies up north or on Child’s Lake with his grandkids. Vern enjoyed the odd OV and giving a big thumbs up with Roman, even though they didn’t have thumbs.
Vern will be missed by his wife Jean, his sons and families, David, Sheri and their children Olivia and Nicholas; Chad, Amanda and their children Zachary, Jacob and Meredith; and Stephen, April and their children Chandler and Preston. Vern also leaves behind his sister Hilda, brothers Bill (Linda) and Don (Marlene) and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Service will be held after harvest, as we all know Vern would want – when the sun is shining, that combine had better be running. Donations in lieu of flowers to the Togo Cemetery Committee will be accepted at this time.
