Obituary of (Utah) Frances (MacDonald) Campbell, Glace Bay
We regret to announce the passing of our dear mother, Frances, on Wednesday, June 8th, 2022, at home, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in New Waterford on August 4th, 1932, the daughter of Peggy (MacDonald) Wilton, she was raised by loving grandparents Allan C. and Christie MacDonald who were father and mother to her.
Frances attended St. Agnes School and was an active member of St. Agnes Parish in her youth. Her passion for music began at an early age and was instrumental in meeting the love of her life. She moved to Glace Bay upon the occasion of her marriage to her beloved husband, Roddie Campbell.
She leaves to mourn her children Margaret (Glen) Peach, Port Morien; Catherine (Malcolm) Brown, Dominion; Irene (Charles) Hooper, Tanglewood; Marie (Alan) MacLeod, Summerside, PEI; Roddie, Bridgewater; Bernadette (Bill) Cook, Glace Bay; Jeanette (Eddie) McCormick, Glace Bay; Joan (Peter) Attwood, Dartmouth; 15 grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren.
Frances is also survived by her sisters Jeanette (the late Ron) Robertson, Hamilton, ON.; Patsy (Leonard) Chisholm, Reserve; and brother Walter (the late Florence) MacNeil, Sydney; and sisters-in law Bea (the late Raymond) Campbell, Glace Bay; Valerie (the late Jim) LeBlanc, Coxheath; Shirley (the late Cecil) Wilton, Guelph, ON as well as numerous nieces, nephews and good friends.
She was predeceased by her loving husband of 52 years, Roderick Campbell; two brothers, Cecil Wilton, Guelph, ON. and Lawrence (the late Mary) MacNeil, Florida; and one sister Agnes Wilton, Hamilton, ON.
Mom did not have a computer but the telephone was her window to the world. She spent countless hours talking to her family and her many valued friends. She was a devoted member of her church and her community. Frances was an active member of the former St. Anne’s Society. She was the organist for the ladies choir at St. Anne’s Church for over 30 years. Mom also shared her gift of music with various religious organizations in Glace Bay and the surrounding area. If an organist was needed, she was there. All choir people were very special to her.
Volunteering in her community, Frances was a proud member of Each One Teach One for over 20 years. She loved language almost as much as she loved music. She spent many enjoyable years as part of a musical group who entertained in various nursing homes and hospitals. Mom was also a member of the New Waterford Gaelic Society.
Frances and Roddie enjoyed many summers at the bungalow with family and friends. This was a treasured part of their lives. They had many happy memories of their time spent there. Their door was always open both at home and at the bungalow. Mom took great pleasure in the many visits and phone calls from her loving children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mom had a long and happy life and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Mom was a wonderful Mother who loved her family dearly.
Visitation will take place on Monday, June 13th, 2022 from 5 – 8 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay.
A Funeral Mass of celebration will be held on Tuesday, June 14th, 2022 at 10 am in St. Anne’s Church, Glace Bay with Fr. Duaine Devereaux presiding. Lunch in the foyer following mass. Burial to take place in St. Anne’s Cemetery.
