THORNHILL, Major Harold. On Wednesday, December 21, 2022 Harold Thornhill peacefully went to meet his Lord at the age of 93 years, from Edmonton, AB. Harold served as an officer in The Salvation Army for 42 years and continued to serve in various post-retirement appointments in Winnipeg and Saskatoon, provided consultant services to Grace Manor in Edmonton, and spent many volunteer hours helping with ministry at the Edmonton Temple Corps.
Harold loved to be active in various activities including hiking (West Coast Trail when he was 65), house renovations (working with children and grandchildren), woodworking (making beautiful rocking horses for family and friends) and cycling to pick up groceries, or for pure enjoyment. Most of all, he loved to read and study the Bible and even in the weeks before his death could answer many trivia questions and recite the names of the books of the Bible, in order, without prompting.
Harold was predeceased by his loving wife, Eva, who passed on February 23, 2015. He is survived by his loving family: children Philip (Nancy), Robert (Gail), Karen (Bruce) Coley, Paul (Rosemary), Cathy Dawe; 7 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; sister Grace; as well as a wide circle of friends.
A celebration of Harold’s life will take place on Saturday, January 7, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at The Salvation Army Edmonton Temple, 9115-75 Street NW Edmonton, AB T6C 4L3.
In lieu of floral tributes, donations in Harold’s memory may be made to The Salvation Army Edmonton Temple, Partners in Mission Campaign.
