MUISE, Terry Richard – A man who could make you laugh until your sides hurt, who could tell you one joke after another without telling the same one twice and a man who undoubtedly kept the Tim’s Hortons franchise afloat, has passed away. A proud South-ender, Terry Muise, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, February 9, 2022 surrounded by his family and many friends at the age of 62 after a very short battle with cancer. Born June 20, 1959 in Yarmouth, he was a son of the late Sanford Burton “Kunchie” O’Connell and Phyllis Ann (Muise) LeBlanc-Langthorne. Terry was currently the senior Advanced Care Paramedic with EHS in Nova Scotia. His career in paramedicine spanned 44 years, beginning in 1976 when he began working at Huskilson’s Ambulance Service in Yarmouth, and where he continued to work for many years, having also worked with Sweeny’s Ambulance Service in Yarmouth with Layton Goodwin, Ray Smith, Ray Pothier and Mark Stevens (deceased). When the two ambulance firms in Yarmouth merged to form Yarmouth & District Ambulance Service, Terry continued working with them. Finally, when EMC Inc. took control of ambulance service in Nova Scotia in 1997, Terry continued to work with them until the time of his illness. After attending a three-year program at the Advanced Medical Life Support Institute in Conway, New Hampshire, he graduated in 2003, after which he was precepted by Keith Ebbett in Yarmouth. For the past 23 years, he has served on the executive board for IUOE Local 727 as Financial Secretary, having also served on the Negotiating Committee. Terry was a former instructor for the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians, based out of Columbus, Ohio. He was also a former CPR instructor with the Nova Scotia Heart and Stroke Foundation and a former first aid instructor with St. John Ambulance. He was a veteran and former dispatcher for the Yarmouth Fire Department, Salvage Corps (Co. 14), having served as that company’s last Captain. Terry was also recognized by the NYPD for his efforts in the days and weeks following the 9-11 attacks in New York. Until his illness, Terry also continued to work with Huskilson’s Funeral Home in Yarmouth on a part-time basis. Any one who knew Terry will know that he loved baseball and was a huge Red Sox fan, and he looked forward to traveling to Boston every year to catch a few games with his special cousin, Steve Murree. He was also the trainer for the Yarmouth Oland Exports and Yarmouth Concrete and Gravel Senior Hockey teams. Then there was Elvis. Terry was a huge Elvis fan, having visited Graceland several times and collecting anything Elvis-related; he was also an Elvis impersonator and was happy to share stories and pictures of him in his white jump suit with all the bling! But Terry was more than that. Terry, who was a friend to Bill W, was a jokester, always wanting to make people laugh. He was able to comfort the sick and the mourning. He was compassionate and was a friend to many. He was a man of quiet faith, having also been an altar server at Notre-Dame Church in Yarmouth South in his younger years. He will be sorely missed. He is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Sandra (Muise) Muise, as well as by his sons, Matthew “Peach” Muise and Luke “Little Pappy” Muise (Theresa Dolliver), both of Yarmouth. Also surviving are his siblings, Curtis (Brenda) Muise, Melbourne; Jody Thibeau (Peter Buckley), Timberlea; Lisa LeBlanc, Yarmouth; Stillman “Hogie” (Elaine) O’Connell, Yarmouth; Scott (Tammy) O’Connell, Hebron and Todd (Pauline) O’Connell, Amherst, along with his wife’s parents, Rudolphe & Nina Muise, Tusket; brothers-in-law, Martin Muise (Wanda), Halifax and Malcolm (Mary Jane) Muise, Amirault’s Hill; aunts, Joyce Murree, East Boston, MA and Ruth Blades, Yarmouth, along with cousins Charles “Chucky” Muise, Brandon Muise, Duane Smith, Kevin (Jane) Blades, Neil (Geraldine) Blades and nieces and nephews, Maddox, Maddison, August, Ethan, Alicia, Carter, Ryan (Joanne), Maddox, Jordan, Patty, Shawn, Lori, Joshua and Ryan. Aside from his parents, he was also predeceased by his step-father, S. W. “Bill” Langthorne and step-mother, Annie (Dugas) O’Connell. Terry was also predeceased by two special people whom he always said helped make him the man that he was: his grandmother, Marion (Ward) Muise and George A. Clements, who was like a father to Terry. He was also predeceased by a brother-in-law, Clarence Muise, as well as by an uncle, George W. “Sparky” Muise; cousins, Michael Muree, Paul Blades, Brian “Bobo” Blades and Jody Muise. Terry also wanted to make sure to thank a few people: Danny “Captain” Deveau and Greg Walters, the best partners a guy could ever have; his “brother-from-another-mother” and the guy he loved to tease the most, Bruce Muise; Dr. Allison Cottreau and Dr. Paul Legere, as well as all of the doctors, nurses and paramedics he had the privilege of working with throughout the years. A special word of thanks to the Huskilson family and staff for their kindness throughout the years. Sandra and the boys want to say a special thanks to everyone who helped during Terry’s brief illness, but especially to Danny and Melanie Deveau for stepping-up and helping with Terry’s care in his last days – your kindness will never be forgotten. Visitation will take place from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., Sunday at H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, 29 Albert Street, Yarmouth with prayers at 8 p.m. A funeral Mass will take place at 1:00 p.m., Monday, February 14 from Saint Ambrose Co-Cathedral, Yarmouth, Father Pat O’Meara officiating. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery, Yarmouth. A livestream of the service will be available via the St. Ambrose Co-Cathedral website (www.stambroseyarmouth.ca/). Seating will be limited at both the visitation and funeral Mass (priority being given to family) and as such, pre-registration will be required. Details as to how to register for both will be posted on this page by noon Friday . Proof of double vaccination and the wearing of masks is mandatory at both the visitations and the funeral Mass. It has been requested that there be family flowers only. Donations in memory of Terry may be made to the Children’s Wish / Make-A-Wish Foundation, Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery Fund or to a charity of your choice.
