SKIBA, Derek James
January 19, 1970 – December 18, 2022
It is with great sadness to announce the passing of our beloved son, brother, nephew and uncle Derek James Skiba on December 18th, 2022. Derek passed peacefully surrounded by his family and friends.
Derek will be lovingly remembered by his parents Danny and Candy Skiba; brother Jason (Sherry) Skiba; nieces Brooke (Lowell), Kennedy (Rohin) along with many relatives and friends.
Derek was born in Whitecourt in 1970 and raised in Mayerthorpe. He worked at Millar Western for 35 years doing numerous jobs in the saw mill. Derek had an everlasting love for his car and had great opportunities to show his car off at “Show and Shines” near and far. His other passions included: hunting, travelling, collecting sports cards and other sports memorabilia.
Derek was reliable, loving, soft spoken and cared deeply for those around him. Our lives will never be the same without him and his stories. His memory and love will live on through his family and friends.
Derek’s family would like to thank his aunt and Uncle Corrine and Don for their overwhelming help, love and support given to Derek over the past months. The family would like to acknowledge the grateful care and compassion from Dr. Jamal and the staff at Mayerthorpe Hospital who supported Derek through his final journey. May he rest in comfort and peace.

A Celebration of Derek’s life will be held at the Mayerthorpe Legion, January 14, 2023 at 2:00 pm.
In memory of Derek, donations may be made in his name to a charity of one’s choice.
