Shirley was predeceased by: her parents, James and Avis Wesson; infant twin brother and sister, John and Elsie Wesson; sister Thelma Clancy; brothers Ted Wesson, David Wesson; brother-in-law, Val Clancy; sister-in-law, Shirley Wesson; nephew, Lyle Clancy
Shirley was born in Lashburn, Saskatchewan on May 7, 1939, the third daughter born to James and Avis Wesson.
She married Donald Young on January 23, 1960 and also finished her Registered Nursing training in this same year. This was the start to a love of working on the farm, hand- in- hand with her husband, tackling any chore that needed doing, from handling cattle, to driving combine, to preparing home-cooked delicious meals for all involved. This was also the start of a long nursing career spanning 40+ years, becoming a compassionate, knowledgeable, and dedicated nurse that touched the lives of many working in the Maidstone Clinic and Maidstone Hospital.
Together Don and Shirley raised two children- Shawna and Darren whom they became role models for and guided them through life with their love.
Shirley thoroughly enjoyed her garden and her flowers. She always spoke of the years the “TWO SHIRLEY’S” gardened together enjoying their friendship and passion for flowers as being the best years! She still grew a garden this year and was pickling and canning this summer.
Shirley and Don loved getting together with their family and friends. She loved and took great pleasure in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and never missed a party or activity they were involved in.
Some people make your day better, some people make your life better, Mom did both. She will be truly missed as life will never be the same without her.
It’s OK to mourn. It’s OK to feel sorrow and pain, but we want to celebrate Mom and how she lived her life. Together we may acknowledge and share both our joy in the gift that her life was to us all, and the pain that her passing brings. In sharing the joy and the pain together, may we lessen the pain and remember more clearly the joy. We need to hold on to all those wonderful memories we shared with her because that is what will get us thru this difficult time.
Let Mom rest from her labours and her good deeds.
Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord and let light shine perpetual upon her.
May her soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, Rest in Peace. Amen
Thank you to everyone that has shown their kindness to our family during this difficult time. The kind words, cards, phone calls, and flowers were very much appreciated. We will be forever grateful.
A Celebration of Life in memory of Shirley will be conducted from Maidstone Ice Arena, Maidstone, Saskatchewan on Saturday, May 7, 2022 at 10:30 AM.
Donations in memory of Shirley may be made to donor’s charity of choice.
