Obituary for
Sedley Earl MacKenzie
MacKenzie, Sedley Earl – Age 75, of Greenfield, N.S., passed away peacefully at home on June 28th, 2022. Born in Truro, he was a son of the late Earl and Gwendolyn (Cox) MacKenzie.
He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Carol (Casey); son, Bob (Donnalee); granddaughter, Abigail; brothers, Larry (Faye), Zilpha, George (Rhoda); sisters, Mary Ann Rutherford, Bonita MacDonald (Terry); brothers-in-law, Glen Casey (Karen), Kenneth Casey (Patti), Chris Casey (Sonya), Timmy Casey (Beth), Paul Casey, and sisters-in-law, Brenda Mosher (Jim), Pat Findlay (Kevin) and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, Earl and Gwendolyn MacKenzie; parents-in-law, Raymond and Ruth Casey; brother, Russell and sister-in-law, Debbie Jordan.
After 30 years of delivering milk to customers and bread to stores, Sedley retired from Eastern Bakeries in 2005. To keep busy after he retired, Sedley thoroughly enjoyed working for NAPA Auto Parts delivering parts and chatting it up to everyone he met throughout each day.
Sedley was an antique car enthusiast, owning more antique cars than we could count over the years. Carol and Bob attended hundreds of car shows with Sedley, where he would proudly display his prized possessions. However, his most prized possession was his granddaughter, Abigail, for whom the sun rose and set. Sedley has passed his love for cars on to her, giving her the Miata, which he bought when she was three and gave to her on her 16th birthday. She will cherish this special gift forever.
He was a great storyteller and never one to pass up a chance to tease all his nieces and nephews. He was also known to tell many tall tales and stretching the truth to make the most unbelievable story, but he had a way of making you believe it. He enjoyed his time at Tim Hortons (“the office”) with all of his buddies (“co-workers”) solving all the world problems.
“If you get in trouble, call!” could always be heard from Sedley when parting ways along with a salute, smile, and a twinkle in his eye. He will be forever loved and sadly missed.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro, where a visitation will be held on Sunday, July 3rd from 6-8pm and a funeral service on Monday, July 4th at 11am with Pastor Luke Anderson officiating. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the SPCA, the Connection Church, or a charity of choice. Webcasting will begin at 10:58am (AST) and is available along with online condolences at www.ColchesterCommunity.com.
