Sean Allan Burton
1977 – 2022
Sean passed away suddenly on December 15, 2022 to the great regret of all who knew him. Son of Capt. James Burton of Ridgeway, Ontario and Barbara Caine (Michael) of Oakville, Ontario, he also leaves behind his sister, Jennifer Sampson (Hank) of Peterborough, an extended family and many friends across Canada and the United States.
Even before Sean’s graduation from Appleby College (Class of 1995), he was determined to play a creative, hands-on role in the film industry. Subsequently, Sean became a gifted technician who applied his skills and acumen to TV and film for decades, most recently as a gaffer. If you’ve enjoyed shows like Orphan Black, Kim’s Convenience, Flashpoint and Anne With An E, you’ve seen Sean’s pride and accomplishments in his work with his teams.
Sean loved being mentor to young people and filmmakers in the industry. He was passionate about helping new technicians learn the trade and especially safety protocols. Sean was also extremely generous with his time and would say yes to anyone who needed help with their passion project.
Sean loved the New England Patriots as a young boy, well before anyone had heard of Tom Brady. He also followed F1 and NASCAR, knew his way around the kitchen and loved to get lost in a book, typically Science Fiction and Fantasy which reflected an expansive imagination and a keen interest in Dungeons and Dragons.
Sean was proud to be part of the Governor’s General Horse Guards as a Trooper. He followed in the steps of his father and grandfather, and his pride for the Regiment was evident when he composed a short video for the Regiment’s 200th Anniversary.
Anyone who knew Sean can relate to the breadth and depth of his general knowledge. He simply assimilated information with apparent ease, a skill that could prove to be infuriating when you found yourself on the losing end of a robust discussion with him. If you had a debate team, you would make Sean your Captain!
Sean was an exceptional human being. His sense of fairness, social justice, loyalty and care for all, guided his life.
Set the lights once more Sean, and then Rest in Peace!
Funeral Service will be held on Saturday January 7, 2023 at St. Jude’s Anglican Church, 160 William Street, Oakville at 3 pm.
