It is with broken hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother Sarah Mary Corrigan at the Health Sciences Centre on April 16, 2022 at the age of 84. Predeceased by her husband of 60 years Thomas Corrigan, her parents Celestine and Gertrude Hynes, brothers Ignatius, Ronald and Roger. Leaving to mourn her sons John (Gillian), Ronald (Germaine), Tommy (Kelly). Daughters Joan (Leo Ryan), Sharon (Denis Power), Mary, Viola (Phonse Coombs), Tina, Patricia (Dwayne Davis) and Jennifer. Her grandchildren Lee, Cody, Chasity, Julie, Leah, Samantha, Courtney, Rachel, Ashley, Sydnie, Denis, Sarah, Joseph, Nathan, Kyle, Chad, Luke and Eric. Great grandchildren whom she cherished Lauren, Ellie, Harper Lee, Blair and Thomas. Mom is lovingly remembered by her sisters Viola (Phonse Farrell, Halifax), Genevieve (Tom Johnson, Oakville) and Madeline (Howard Smith deceased, New Brunswick). Sisters-in-law Theresa Power (Derm deceased), Bernice Bennett (John deceased), Helen and Dorothy Corrigan (Presentation). Brothers-in-law Bill (Edwina), Trepassey and Don (Bride), Trepassey. Also, many nieces, nephews and friends.
Sarah came to Trepassey from St. Bernard’s, Fortune Bay and met the love of her life, Tom Corrigan. She was welcomed into Tom’s family and loved as their own. They built a life together and raised their large family at Powles Head lighthouse.
Mom was our Queen. Her family was her pride and joy. A beautiful woman with a strong faith. She enjoyed the simple things in life, a day berry picking, a good cup of tea and a game of bingo. She had a gentle and loving way that made all her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren feel so loved. She will be sadly missed by all.
The family would like to give thanks to mom’s caregivers over the years Edna, Angie, Jessica, Shirley and Lisa. Special thanks to her two daughters Jennifer and Tina for their unwavering support and care these past few years. Thank you as well to the staff of the Health Sciences Centre for their compassionate care over the past several weeks.
In keeping with Covid precautions, there will be no visitation and a private family service will take place in Trepassey. In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to a charity of ones choice or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Newfoundland and Labrador.
