Obituary of Samuel Stephen Delorey
Delorey, Samuel “Sam” – Yellow Marsh, Guysborough Co. Age 75. It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of Sam, surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, October 26, 2022, at home. Sam was born on June 22, 1947, in Yellow Marsh he was a son of the late Martin and Margaret (Daley) Delorey.
He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Janet (Ryan) Delorey; his children, Troy (Tammie), Tickle; Melinda (Brian),Canso; Nicole, Mulgrave; his five grandchildren, Katelynn, Trevor, Cassidy, Autumn and Chloe; great-granddaughters, Raelynn and Everleigh; Todd Hendsbee, Dad of Autumn and Chloe; Sam’s brothers, Harry (Roseann), Canso; Earl (Bella), Yellow Marsh; Bernie (Barb), Tickle Rd.; Henry (Gladys), Yellow Marsh; Bobby (Tammy), Yellow Marsh; many nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly and some he had special names and bonds with. Besides his parents, Sam was predeceased by his brother in infancy.
Sam worked 37 years for the Town of Canso as a linesman. He was a very active member of the Canso Hazel Hill Volunteer Fire Department for 45 years. He enjoyed playing baseball and hockey in his younger years, he loved his curling games. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and especially hunting trips with his son, Troy. Dad was a man who volunteered with many organizations over the years. He was a member of Star of the Sea Parish.
The family would like to thank Dr. Cathy and Dr. Milburn for all the care and compassion given to Dad and the family.
Visitation will be held from 2-9 p.m. Sunday, October 30th in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, 121 School St., Canso. Funeral mass will take place at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 31st in Star of the Sea Roman Catholic Church Canso with Father Jonathan Nnajiofor officiating. Burial to follow in Star of the Sea Parish Cemetery, Canso. Memorial donations may be made in memory of Sam to Star of the Sea Parish or C.H.H.V.F.D.
