Ronald John Olexson 1944 2022

It is with sorrow and sadness that the family of Ronald John William Olexson announces his passing after an extended courageous battle with cancer. Ron was born on August 5, 1944, at Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and passed away on December 7, 2022, at Parkland Place in Melfort, Saskatchewan at the age of 78 with his loving and devoted wife Fernnell by his side.
Ron will be lovingly remembered by his wife Fern of 55 years, his only son Glenn (Tahra) of Speargrass, Alberta, his two grandsons Tristan Olexson and Connor Olexson both from Calgary, Alberta, step grandson Chris Sabir (Madison) of Slocan, British Columbia. and his brother Dennis Olexson (Dee 1998-53) of Summerland, Prince Edward Island. He is predeceased by his parents John Joseph Olexson (2000-87) and Pearl Anne (nee Kindrachuck), (1968-51).
With memories of Ron and Fern cutting up the dance floors through the years it is not surprising that they met through friends, at the Manhattan Dance Club in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Ron and Fern were married June 17, 1967, at St. George’s Cathedral in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
Ron worked for the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool for ten years. He was a helper at Grasswood (Saskatoon) and at Lake Lenore/Daylesford. He became manager at Vonda, West Bend and Humboldt. In 1997 Ron changed careers moving to Melfort, Saskatchewan working for the Highway Traffic Board as a Traffic Officer for three years. In 1980, Ron became a Judicial Officer for the Provincial Court in Melfort. Ron retired after 24 years in 2004 at the age of 60. Ron was known for his humour and quick wit, and enjoyed many sporting activities such as curling, golfing, and fishing. His favourite fishing destination was Jan Lake, Saskatchewan. Ron enjoyed spending time with his grandsons and friends on many local fishing holes around the area.
Ron also enjoyed travelling with Fern to Mexico, Germany, Las Vegas, Prince Edward Island and numerous bus excursions to various locations.
The family would like to thank the staff at Melfort Union Hospital and the staff at Parkland Place for all the care and compassion given to Ron.
A special thank you to Dr. Strydom for the wonderful care he gave to Ron over the years.
No funeral service will be held as per Ron’s request.
A private family graveside intermittent service will be held.
