In Celebration of
Ronald Joseph Hugh MacDonald
March 19, 1940 –
December 9, 2022
Age 82, passed peacefully in hospital after a brief, brave battle with lung cancer. First-born child of Doris and Sheldon in Sherridon, Manitoba. Dear big brother to Margaret (Grant) and John (Eileen). Beloved father to his daughter Michelle. Devoted stepfather to Nadine (Stuart), Michael (deceased) and Steve (Leona). Loving step-grandfather to Christopher, Jonathan, Jennifer, Christina and Mitchell. Founder of Rondo Specialty Foods, seized retirement early to pursue his passions as a traveler, art enthusiast and lover of the natural world. Struggled with mental illness throughout most of his adult life, managed to abide it sufficiently to always be a loving, kind person to family & friends and a successful businessman. A generous spirit who grew up in Toronto’s West End, Ronald MacDonald was always funny and fun-loving (“Yes, that is my name, and I’ve been around a helluva lot longer than that other clown!”). Whip-smart, stylish to the end, and quite simply one of the coolest people you could ever meet. Will be greatly missed, especially by his adoring daughter. Huge thanks to the staff and residents of Beechwood Retirement Home for many years of care, kindness and camaraderie. Gratitude to Trillium Mississauga Hospital Palliative Team for their diligent care in his final days. Very special appreciation to Dr. Timothy Chung for his exceptional warmth and attentiveness in Ron’s final months. A Memorial service to be held at the Turner & Porter “Yorke” Chapel, 2357 Bloor Street W., (East of Jane Street), Toronto at 11am on Monday January 9th, 2023. Donations may be made to CAMH or charity of choice.
