On December 18, 2022, Raymond Feraday passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by family in his 96th year. Beloved husband of 65 years of the late Betty Feraday (nee Barratt), Ray was survived by his eight children, eighteen grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and his brother Gerald. A well-respected veteran Detective of the Metropolitan Toronto Police Force, Ray served and protected the public for 38 years in the heart of the city.
Well-read and self-educated, Ray worked hard from the age of 14 to help support his family in many different professions until he found his niche on the Police Force as an investigator.
As an athlete and mentor to many, Ray was a fitness advocate. A winning hockey coach of 52 Division while on the force, he enjoyed playing hockey right into his 84th year.
Ray was a Renaissance man who excelled at anything he put his effort to. With his beautiful multi-octave voice and perfect pitch, Ray was a much-loved member of the Saint Anthony’s Choir and the Toronto Police Choir.
When he wasn’t at work you could find him with his children coaching football, track, cross country, hockey, and boxing at St. Michael’s high school, and city championship floor hockey and basketball at the local recreation centre. All the neighborhood children were welcome to participate and enjoy his mentorship.
In his retirement, he enjoyed a flare for writing and poetry. He composed over 2000 poems and penned three books of his memoirs.
Regardless of his many interests, Ray’s real passion in life was his family. He was happiest in the presence of Betty and his Grandchildren. Ray will be dearly missed by all that new him, but his legacy of love will live forever.
