Obituary
Phyllis Augusta Anderson of Drumheller and formerly of Rumsey, Alberta beloved wife of the late Lennart Axel Anderson, passed away peacefully, on the 14th of December 2022, at the age of 97 years.
Phyllis was the third child born to Helen and Clarence Hogan, early pioneers of the Rumsey district. She was born at the home of her maternal grandparents, Hudson and Sarah Grant at Wetaskiwin, AB on August 31, 1925.
Along with her three siblings, brother Beverly, and sisters Shirley, and Mildred, Phyllis grew up on the farm about four miles southwest of Rumsey. She attended school at Two Valley View up to grade nine and then she started grade ten in Drumheller. Since her father needed help and Beverly was overseas at war, she left school to assist her dad on the farm.
Phyllis Hogan and Lennart Anderson were married on November 23, 1943. To this union five children were born: Larry, Kenneth Neal, Judy, Tom, and Jeff. Larry of Morrin, Judy of Edmonton, Tom (Karen Hansen) on the family farm in Rumsey, and Jeff (Deb Richmond) of Yellowknife.
Phyllis was pre-deceased by her siblings and joins her husband Lennart, her son Tom, and her infant son Kenneth in their heavenly home.
Our Mother had 8 grandchildren: Aaron (Jen) Carson, Jamie (Yvan) Goudreau, Marci (Jerritt) Nemetz, Chelsey Anderson, Justin (Kennady) Anderson, Wesley (Paige) Anderson, Casey (Ohmma) Anderson and Robyn Anderson.
Phyllis had 12 great grandchildren with two more on the way. Aaron has four girls: Miranda, Katie, Piper, and Grace. Jamie has three boys: Tyler, Brayden, Kayle. Marci has three boys: Jake, Breck, and Loel. Justin has two sons: Mason and a new son Bennett born December 21, 2022.
Phyllis is also survived by a special cousin, Roscoe Grant who is 101 years old, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Mother had many hobbies, some of which are: knitting, crocheting, reading, gardening, playing the organ for fun, bridge, curling and golf. She was also a member of the Rumsey History Book 11, which she really enjoyed.
Phyllis belonged to the Big Valley Order of the Royal Purple and served as Honored Royal Lady as well as the District Deputy. She belonged to the Rumsey Birthday Club, the Two Valley View ladies’ group, Rumsey Curling Club, as well as both school and church organizations. Mother and Dad travelled to Iran, Sweden, Arizona, Hawaii, Yellowknife, Winnipeg, Cuba, and Alaska.
The family is planning a Celebration of Life service on Saturday, February 25, 2023, at 1:00 P.M. It will be held in the Rumsey Community Hall and our celebrant will be Reverend Mary-Ellen Moore.
Flowers are gratefully declined. Those who wish, memorial donations maybe made to Drumheller Area Health Foundation (Long Term Care), 351 9th Street N.W., Drumheller, Alberta, T0J 0Y1 or the Rumsey Agricultural Society. Courtney-Winter’s Funeral Homes are in care of the arrangements.
