Philip Clarence Huston 2022

Philip’s Obituary
Philip Clarence Huston “Flip” November 15 1950 to November 26 2022.
Phil peacefully slipped away on the Carefree Highway surrounded by many who loved him dearly.
Predeceased by his father Rupert Leslie Huston, mum Hilda Huston, sister Sheila Wilson, and brother Mike Huston. He is survived by his daughters Tena (Justin) Simons, Dawn Huston (Mike Elliott), grand children Kyle Moffatt, Allison Moffatt, Aaron Simons, Lindy Simons, brothers Dave Huston (Martha), Barry Huston (Jean), Kevin Huston (Teresa), Tony Huston (Leslie), and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Dad was eternally optimistic and felt most alive and at peace in the woods or near the water. He loved to write poems and often his topic of choice would be trees, birds, water, and nature in general. He loved his family, animals, fishing, hiking, reading, watching CNN and Sports desk, Gordon Lightfoot, and he was a lifelong fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs. It didn’t matter to him if they were losing just as long as Montreal wasn’t winning. He also loved to tell a good story. If he had one to tell you might as well settle in. He was a great cook and enjoyed cooking up a big “scran” as he called it. At family meals dad’s gravy was always the best.
Dad’s idea of the absolute perfect weekend was getting away to the camp with his brothers. There would be hunting, snowshoeing, hiking, good food and always music. He loved to listen to his brothers play music and he was pretty good on the harmonica himself. Most times a trip to the camp was just a reason to get the Huston brothers together. A closer group of siblings you will never find.
Dad grew up in Pugwash and although he moved around a bit over the years Pugwash was always home. In recent years it was his goal to make his way back “home”. By the water was where he was always meant to be. In Dad’s working years he was a butcher by trade and this time of year (deer hunting season) would often be a very busy time for him. He tried factory work for a short time at Michelin but quickly learned that wasn’t the life for him. Soon after he became an entrepreneur running Huston’s Butcher Shop on Main Street Tatamagouche for many years. There were times when his customers would be lined up out the door to get a good cut of meat from Phil for the bbq. Before he retired visiting dad often meant visiting at “the shop” as it was his second home. We were always greeted with a big “Hi Darlin” and a smile. His butcher block still resides in Tatamagouche’s brew shop with a beer aptly named after it. He was well known and loved by many people. We will see you in our dreams dad. You’ll be fishing on the river betting on who will get the first, the biggest and the most. A celebration of life will be held from 1-3 pm Saturday, December 3, at Mundle’s Funeral Home, Pugwash.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
