Obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden but peaceful passing of a beautiful wife and mother, Patricia Edwina Crawley (nee Tobin) of Gaskiers, St. Mary’s Bay, who passed away at St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital June 19, 2022, at the age of 83 years
Predeceased by infant daughter Mary, parents John & Catherine, sister Marg, brothers Bernard and Mike, parents-in-law William & Monica; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Marie, Ed, Noreen, Jimmy, John, Peter, Reg, Chris, Anne Marie and niece Raylene.
Mom leaves to mourn with beautiful memories, her husband of 61 years, Hubert; her children: Valerie (Francis), Roy (Connie) and Elaine, as well as her precious grandchildren, each of whom she was incredibly proud: Christopher (Kayla), Daniel, Alison (Brandon), Tanner, Brooklyn (Travis) and Carter; Shelby (Justin), Olivia and Amelia.
Also left with fond and loving memories are her devoted siblings: Anna (Andy), Johnny (Anne), Ellen and Emma, her in-laws: Marg, Marie (Jim), Willie (Helen), Ray, Ethel, Maddie and Frances (Joe), as well as many other wonderful family and friends, including the special friends she made at Admirals Coast, for which we are very grateful.
Mom and Dad moved to the beautiful Admiral’s Coast Retirement Centre, in Kelligrews, almost two years ago. The staff of Admiral’s Coast adored them both and took such wonderful care of them, especially Pam and Aleisha.
A special thank you is also extended to Dad’s caregiver Paula Fleming who showed Mom such compassion and understanding while they still lived at home and to the ER staff at St. Clare’s Hospital for your professionalism during Mom’s brief stay.
Mom wore many hats during her wonderful life, including that of teacher, switchboard operator, and post office clerk, but her best work was in the role of wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.
Mom was a four-time cancer survivor. Her strength and resilience in the face of such adversity was a source of inspiration to her family and community. Her religious faith was enduring.
Mom loved a good game of cards, darts and also loved to dance. She loved to be around people and always had a smile and a kind word. Mom made many friends in her 83 years and will be dearly missed.
As per mom’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, St. Mary’s, on Thursday, June 23, from 1 – 4pm; 5 – 8pm and Friday, June 24, beginning at 9:30am, with Mass of Christian Burial at 11am. Interment to follow at graveside for family only. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Mom’s name to The Alzheimer Society of Canada or The Canadian Cancer Society.
