Obituary
Patricia passed away peacefully at Kiwanis Lodge in Nanaimo, B.C. with her loving family at her side.
She grew up in Red Deer, attending North Red Deer Elementary, Central Elementary and Junior High; and graduated from Lindsay Thurber Composite High in 1960. In her youth she was a member of Girl Guides, Air Cadets and CGIT. She also danced at Martin Academy and participated in many tapdancing recitals.
Subsequent to High School Patricia worked at Parsons Clinic as a receptionist. On Dec. 27, 1961 she married Edwin James Quinlan and became an air force wife and mother. Patricia raised her family in various communities across Canada. During this time she retained her interest in Girl Guides and CGIT as a leader. She was a very active member of the Women’s Institute, Red Hatters and community associations wherever they were stationed.
Patricia’s passions throughout her life were fashion design, quilting and crocheting. She was a very accomplished seamstress and created outstanding pieces of art, winning many awards for her creations. She was also a mentor and teacher at guilds and colleges wherever she resided. Patricia held a degree in Fashion Design from Kwantlen College in Richmond, B.C.; and, taught fabric arts courses at Malaspina College in Nanaimo, B.C.
In addition she enjoyed macrame, copper enamelling, needle point, ceramics and pottery. She loved animals and had pet cats and dogs throughout her life.
In latter years she enjoyed travel to the British Isles, France, Italy, Greece, Hawaii, South Korea, Mexico and many U.S. destinations. She also loved reading, music and movies. Audio books were a blessing.
Patricia was a very loving and caring mother. She will forever be remembered and cherished by all that knew her well. Patricia is survived by her sons Stephen Quinlan and wife SuHee Chang, grandsons Edward, Xavier and granddaughter Xanthe; son Tim Quinlan and wife Emily; and, their father Edwin Quinlan.
Sister Anita and brother-in-law Don Spicer, niece Nancy McInenly, great nephew Hunter and great niece Kaci. Nephew Patrick Spicer and wife Shannon; great nieces Eloise and Maven; and nephew Andrew Spicer
Brother Paige Comis and sister-in-law Marlene, niece Tracy Smith and husband Tyler, great nephew Kolton and great niece Clara. Nephew Chris Comis and wife Natalie, great nieces Naomi and Celeste.
She was predeceased by her parents Bruno and Catherine; and brother Brian Comis.
A special thank you to the staff and management of Kiwanis Lodge in Nanaimo for the quality lifestyle and exceptional care provided during her residency at the facility in later life. They were family to her.
The family would also like to thank her best and life long friend, Loreen Geddes ( nee Davidson ) for the companionship and support she provided over the years.
A Memorial Service and interment will be held in Red Deer, Alberta in the Spring of 2023
