On Saturday afternoon, June 4, 2022 our beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away at the East Kootenay Regional Hospital with his family by his side. He was born on June 23, 1936 to Max and Ada Bidder in Kimberley, BC.
Norman married his partner in life — his “Chief”– Joyce on April 21, 1962. They were privileged to celebrate 60 years together. They were blessed with three children: Mark, Owen and Lori.
Norm got the nickname “Stormin’ Norman” from his CFI crew for storming into the mill and motivating his crew to keep the line moving. He was, however, also known for being a mentor to his crew members, stepping in and helping them out when they were facing issues both at work and in life.
He was involved in many different groups during his life including the Canal Flats Cubs and Scouts, the Canal Flats Lions Club and the Canal Flats Winter Club. He loved the outdoors and passed his passion on to the people within these groups. Norm also volunteered with the Regional District, the CFI Union and Safety, First Aid, the Canal Flats Seniors, and the Strata Council at Sunshine Meadows.
Most of all Norm loved the outdoors. He hunted, fished, camped and played golf for most of his life. He and Joyce always enjoyed camping together with their kids, grandkids and great grandkids, as well as with friends. Together, they taught their family to enjoy the beauty of nature. His philosophy in life was to treat people fairly and to listen to all sides of a story before jumping to conclusions. He has been thanked by many for this talent of helping people in difficult situations.
Norm leaves behind his beloved wife of 60 years, Joyce, his children and their families: Mark (Karen), Jen, Kayla (Kyle), and Britt; Owen (Cory), Mark and Brittany; and Lori (Danny), Travis and Faye. He also leaves behind great-grandchildren Phoenix, Mason, Aiden, Sawyer, Hudson, Ozzie and Leo.
Norm was predeceased by his parents Max and Ada Bidder, two brothers Fred and Bob, and one sister Beth.
A Celebration of Life will take place at 11:00 am on Sunday, June 12, 2022 at McPherson’s Reception Room, 2200 2nd St. S., Cranbrook. If friends desire, memorial donations may be made in Norm’s memory to the F.W. Green Memorial Home, 1700 – 4th St. S., Cranbrook, BC V1C 6E1.
