Nathan Nate Folkedahl May 15th 2022

Nathan (Nate) Folkedahl, passed away at the age of 90, on Sunday, May 15 2022, with his wife Marjorie and daughter Cheri, at his side. Nate was born on July 2nd, 1931 to Art and Doris Folkedahl, in Hamlin Alberta. He was one of four children, older sister Marlis, younger sister Velma, and the youngest, his brother Gilman.
Nate moved to BC in his late teens. He worked for the Enquist’s in Cambie Solsqua, in the 1950’s, Shuswap Timbers in the early 60’s running the “Cherry Picker” crane in Old Town Bay. Nate went to work in the mid 60’s for BJ Carney Pole, and worked there until he retired in 1994 at the age of 63.
Nate met the love of his life, Marjorie and her little girl Sandra, and they began their life together in 1958. In 1961 their daughter Cheryl (Cheri) was born. In the spring of 1962 they bought the property on Green Road, in Sicamous, where they lived for the next 52 years. The biggest heartbreak of his life was when they lost their daughter Sandy to cancer at the age of 12, in 1968.
Anyone who knew Nate and Marge, knew there was always a cup of coffee or a drink of something stronger for anyone who stopped by. Visiting at the kitchen table or out in the yard on a nice day, was Nate’s very favorite thing to do. Home was always where his heart was. He loved talk and tell stories, and was just as good at listening. He gave great advice, and had a shoulder available if you needed to cry, or complain. He would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it, and if you needed a hand, you had his.
He was DIY kind of guy. A jack of all trades, master of none, and used to say he knew just enough “how to”, to be a danger to himself. Nate and Marge always had a project on the go. They hobby farmed, had a nursery greenhouse venture, and a second hand store. They built the barn for the hobby farm, doing everything themselves, including hand cutting the roofing shakes, and stack building the walls, with the help of friends and family. They renovated their house more than once. He made sling shots and whistles out of willow, for the neighbor kids, and his nephews and nieces. He liked to tinker and fabricate and invent gadgets that sometimes worked, or not, either way he considered it time well spent.
He was musical and loved to play his guitar, and he loved to sing. He knew how to whistle a tune, and Marge always said she if she lost him in a store, she’d just follow the tune. He loved to sketch, and paint, and write poetry. Nate was very spiritual and kept himself centered with meditation. He loved doing crosswords and other word puzzles, and he was very good at them. He loved to game on the computer and play station, both of which he began playing in his early 70’s. But most of all, he loved to read. He was a collector of books and had an extensive library. His collection of smoking pipes and pens numbered in the hundreds, and came from every corner of the world.
Nate had a very unique sense of humor, and a wide and wonderful smile. He had a big belly and a big belly laugh that filled a room. He loved Christmas and many a friend was awakened in the wee hours of Christmas morning, for a Merry Christmas from Nate. His love of Christmas and children, and the big belly, made him the perfect Santa Claus, and he spent many years as the town Santa.
Nathan is predeceased by his sister Marlis, brother Gilman, and brother-in law (brother from another mother) Albert. Nate leaves behind his beloved wife of 64 years, Marjorie, and his loving daughter and son-in-law, Cheri, and Larry. He also leaves his sister Velma, with whom he has shared a lifetime of love and laughter. He will be missed by his many nieces and nephews, his honorary grand-daughter Jenny, his step-grand children and great grand children, and countless friends.
There will not be a service for Nathan at this time. Nate and Marge were always together, and always a couple, and when the time comes for them to be together again, we will hold a celebration of life for both of them. Cards for Marjorie or Cheri can be sent to 1113 Green Rd S, Sicamous BC V0E2V1.
