Narciso Simonato Friday June 3rd 2022

In loving memory of Narciso (Remigio) Simonato, who at the age of 100 years, passed away peacefully at Health Sciences North, on Friday, June 3, 2022.
Beloved husband of Noemi (nee Celant) for 71 wonderful years. Noemi was his one true love and the two were married in Savorgnano Italy on October 13, 1951.
Loving Father of Mario (Ivana Perri) and Adriano (Susan Barberio).
Loving and adored Nonno of Claudia (Owen McCardle), Paolo (Krystal Hornsey), Tania (Jimmy Bartolucci), Giulia (Justin Ellsworth), Christopher (Kassidy Kennedy).
Bisnonno of Jacob and Max Bartolucci, Marina Simonato, and Louis and Henry McCardle.
Sadly missed by his family and many, many good friends.
Born in San Vito al Tagliamento on May 13, 1922 to Mario Simonato and Maria Mior. Brother to Amalia (predeceased).
At the age of 19, Remigio enlisted in the Italian Military. While in the Military he trained and became a licensed mechanic.
He and his bride started their life in Canada in 1952. He learned how to speak English and needed to learn new trades and skills. Not only did he do so, but he became a master at tile, terrazzo, and cement work. Examples of his beautiful work can be seen around the City, for example at the Sudbury Taxation Centre, Pioneer Manor, the old General Hospital and St. Clements Parish to name a few.
Remigio was always a hard worker and became part of a rich, supportive ethnic community as well as the community at large.
He never complained, he just did it, and excelled at his work.
He, and his wife made celebration, laughter, and social gathering with friends as important as hard work in their family’s life.
Remigio took great joy in interacting with his Grandchildren. He loved riding bicycles with them, building snow forts, playing ball and bocce, and having picnics by the lake.
Remigio had his passions. He loved his cars and he cherished the opportunity to retain his skills as a mechanic by working on them.
The garden was Remigio’s other passion. His tomatoes were award winning. Gardening was therapeutic for him up to as recently as a year ago.
Remigio’s dedication and devotion to wine making resulted in wine that was second to none. Watching him make wine was like watching a chemist at work.
Remigio was also a life long member of the Caruso Club. Gathering with friends at the club allowed him to retain his connection with his cultural roots while at the same time, assimilating to a new way of life. Remigio was also a member of the Fogolar Furlan, and the Alpini.
Remigio has had a positive influence on his part of the world. The world was just that much better because he was a part of it.
The family would like to sincerely thank Bayshore and the LHIN for their support over the years. The family would also like to thank the staff at Health Sciences North for their kindness during his last days,
A special thanks to Dr. Killian De Blacam for his exceptional care, compassion and guidance over the years.
In addition, the family would like to thank Dr. Atilio Costa Vitali for his wonderful, expert care.
