Murray Waxman
Peacefully, at home, on Sunday, November 27, 2022, in his ninety-seventh year. Beloved husband of Harriet Kozlov Waxman, whom he was happily married to for sixty-nine years. Devoted father and father-in-law of Andrew and Susan Waxman, Lynda and Barry Rosini, Louisa Bann and Juan Banks. Doting grandfather of Emily and Lauren Waxman; Jess and Kyle Legnos; Theo and Jennifer Rosini, Adam and Madeline Rosini; Jacob, Veronica, and Chelsea Bann. Adored great-grandfather of Lydia and Case Legnos. Dear brother and brother-in-law of Lola and the late Syd Shatsky, the late Ethel and the late Max Neuman, the late Rose and the late Laz Lang and the late Archie Gasco, the late Jules (Julie) and the late Shirley Waxman, the late Ernie and the late Ruth Waxman; brother-in-law of Shirley Saxon, and Sybil Barnstone, Ora and the late Eddy Kozlov, and the late Sonny Rosenberg. Murray will be deeply missed by his many nieces, nephews, family and friends. Murray was a radiant and positive, inspirational man who brought joy to all those whose lives he touched. One of his favorite sayings was “the sun is coming out; the clouds are breaking up”.
At the age of twenty-three, Murray played guard on the 1948 Montreal Olympic Basketball Team, which finished in the top 10. He also played in the 1950 Maccabiah games. Murray’s love of sports created many lifelong friendships. After playing for the Y Blues, he continued with coaching at his second home, his beloved YMHA, where he later became a Governor. Murray was an avid tennis player at the Y and was a member of the Hillsdale Golf & Country Club for many years. Throughout his life, Murray was community-minded and a generous benefactor for the State of Israel and Federation CJA, happily choosing to give back to those less fortunate. He built a thriving real estate business based on his reputation of integrity and honesty, with partners, Manny Lazar and Martin Sterlin. His children are grateful for the love and support throughout his life and the many gifts and lessons they learned from their father – hard work, integrity, a zest for travel and wonderful family memories. The family would like to express sincere gratitude to Sherri Blackmore, Maude Giboudeaux, Emmanuelle Lemenu at the CLSC Metro, and, most especially, their beloved Gemma Banawa, and Marievic Casumlong, Fred Padiernos, and José Baylon.
