It is with great sadness and broken hearts that
the family announce the peaceful passing of our husband, father,
grandfather and brother, Michael James Hickey at the age of
73.
Predeceased by mother Mary (Lake), father Fergus,
brothers Wilf, Ben, Tony, sister Cynthia and niece
Cynthia.
Leaving to mourn with a lifetime of memories, 3
days short of their 50th wedding anniversary, his loving wife Muriel,
three sons and their wives, Todd (Charlotte), Tim (Erin) and Chris
(Renee); grandchildren, his pride and joy who he adored, Michael
(Gabrielle), William, Alanna, Sara, Julia and Evan; sisters Kathleen
(Camillus) and Mary Lou, brothers Duce (Pam), Butch (Diane), Loyola
(Annmarie), Randal (Eileen), Max (Glorina); sisters-in-law Joan, Mary
and Marjorie.
Mike was
born on April 16, 1949 and was the eldest of 12 children. He began his
career at the ERCO plant in Long Harbour as a heavy equipment operator
and Long Harbour is where he met his beautiful wife. In 1977 the
business began with a single axle Ford Dump Truck, a 1010 John Deere
tractor and the hardworking, dedication of one man, our father and
grandfather, Mike Hickey. He built a successful company, M.J. Hickey
Construction Ltd. and was fortunate to have his 3 sons, grandson and
numerous brothers working with him everyday.
Mike had a generous, selfless heart; would help
anyone and was always there to share a story or song. Mike gave
generously to the community in his over 45 years of business and was a
mentor to many.
The family would like to thank Dr. Power and the
staff of the Placentia Health Centre, Powers Ambulance, Dr.
Stefanelli, the neurology team and 4 South A of the Health Sciences
Centre who treated our husband and dad with the absolute best care.
Your kindness we will never forget.
Family meant everything to Mike and he would be so
proud of the love and support shown to his family by our extended
family, friends and business community. Thank you can never be enough
to express our feelings.
