Obituary
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our son Mateo (Teo) Anthony Gilmour. Born on February 6, 2005, Mateo passed away suddenly on July 27, 2022 at the age of 17. Teo was an incredibly special and compassionate young man. He had a huge impact on everyone he met because of his gentle kindness, generosity, and playful spirit. Teo will be missed an indescribable amount and is gone too soon, but we remain grateful for the love and laughter he brought to our lives while he was with us.
Teo was raised in Calgary, AB where he developed a love for the mountains during many snowboarding and trekking adventures on weekends and holidays with his mother, Liana and Father, Warren. He was an avid athlete and a lover of sports, even those he didn’t naturally excel at. In addition to being an accomplished snowboarder, he had a special connection to soccer and skateboarding. Teo had a larger-than-life personality and natural charm. His smile was infectious, and he always knew how to make those around him laugh, especially with a prank or two.
He was thoughtful and considerate and demonstrated his compassion from a young age, volunteering during the recovery efforts of the 2013 Alberta floods. Mateo is fiercely loved by his friends and family, and will be dearly missed.
Teo is survived by his mother Liana Gilmour and her family; Teo’s Great-Grandmother Lois; his favorite Aunts Sandra, Danielle, Felicia; and his Uncle Colin; Great-Aunt Janet and Great-Uncle Mark. By his father Warren McColm and his family; Teo’s sister Alyssa; Grandmother Wendy; Darren Galenzoski; Great-Uncles Scott and Brent; Great Aunts Debbie and Arlene; and many loving cousins in Calgary, Edmonton, and Saskatoon.
A memorial for Mateo will be held on Friday, August 12th, 2022, at 1 p.m. at The Inn on Officers Garden (150 Dieppe Drive Southwest, Calgary).
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Moms Stop The Harm (www.momsstoptheharm.com) in Teo’s everlasting memory.
