Mary Lozinsky 2022

Obituary
It is with great sadness that the family shares the passing of their beautiful Mother, Baba and Super Baba, Mary Lozinsky, on December 2, 2022, at the age of 99.
Mary was born to George and Rose (Rapchuk) Yufrym in 1923 in Glen Elder, Saskatchewan. She grew up on the Yufrym homestead, where as a child she walked 2 miles to attend South Porcupine School up until grade 7.
Mary married Bill Lozinsky in February 1942. Shortly after, they left for Sherridon, Manitoba, where Bill worked in the nickel mine. They then bought a farm about four miles northwest of Danbury and started farming. Mary and Bill grain farmed and also raised chickens, turkeys, cows, and pigs.
In 1961, Bill’s brother-in-law, Bill Bossy, retired allowing Bill and Mary the opportunity to purchase the Bossy farm one mile west of Danbury where Mary lived until she was 96.
At one point Mary, Bill and their daughter Connie moved to Yorkton where Bill got a job with Pepsi Cola and Mary worked in housekeeping at the Yorkton Hospital. They returned to the farm a couple years later, however Mary would go back to work in housekeeping at the Yorkton Hospital and Nursing Home for a few more summers.
In 1972, Mary got the job as janitor at Danbury school and worked there for 16 years until the school closed.
In her retirement years, Mary kept busy with knitting (primarily afghans to give away), gardening, baking and canning, picking wild berries and mushrooms, painting houses with her friends, and – her most loved past-time – cutting grass with her riding lawn mower (which she did until the age of 96).
Mary’s family will always remember how you wouldn’t go to her house without leaving with a pail of homemade cookies, a bag of perogies, potato buns, or canned fruit.
Mary was a loving, caring, and compassionate Mother, Baba and Super Baba. The most important thing to her was family, whom she loved unconditionally. Mary loved helping and spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be remembered by her family for her cheerful willingness to do whatever chores she could to ‘lighten the load’ for her kids and grandkids. She would spend countless summer days cutting lawn, planting or weeding garden, hilling or digging potatoes, washing windows, or butchering chickens at one of her children’s places.
She also looked forward to being included in on family camping trips, moving grandkid trips, visits to the grandkids, weekend drives, etc.
Mary’s mind was always sharp. She could recollect days gone by and effortlessly recall dates and details about events. This was a gift she was blessed with until her last days.
All her family and friends who spent endless hours at her bedside in person or on the phone during her last two weeks will treasure the time they had to reminisce.
A very special and heartfelt thank-you to the staff of the Norquay Care Home who made the last 3 years of Mary’s life a joy and a blessing. Mary truly considered the nursing home staff her extended family and looked forward to their nightly rituals of stopping at her room to enjoy a cup of coffee, or a handful of Cheetos and glass of Pepsi while watching The Big Bang Theory before bed. The staff treated her with love and kindness, and she sincerely treasured her family there.
Mary’s family is forever grateful for the time they had with her and will cherish the many beautiful memories. Her hardworking nature, perseverance and positive attitude despite many of life’s hardships was an inspiration to all.
Mary was predeceased by her parents, Rose and George Yufrym; husband, Bill Lozinsky; and siblings, Annie Radwanski, William Yufrym, and Stanley Yufrym.
She is survived by her children: Albert (Marlene) Lozinsky, Walter (Vikki) Lozinsky, and Connie (Ernest) Tataryn; her sister, Pauline Bymak; her ten grandchildren; and twenty great-grandchildren; as well as nieces, nephews, and friends.
Family and friends are invited to a Public Visitation beginning at 9:00 a.m., Friday, December 9, 2022, with the Funeral Service following at 1:00 p.m., both from the Chapel of Leson’s Funeral Home, Canora, SK, with Very Rev. Fr. Joakim Rac as Celebrant. Rite of Committal will follow in the Canora Cemetery.
