Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Marlene, at The Pines in Bracebridge, with her children at her side.
Marlene was born in Port Carling to Angus and Florence (Sawyer) Cameron. She is survived by her brother Owen (Mickey) Cameron and sister Barbra Anne (Roger) Saunders. She was predeceased by her brothers Charlie (Barbara) and Vernon Cameron.
Marlene was the loving wife of Geoffrey Waite for 48 years, until his passing in 2007. She was the mother of Alison Ayers (Michael) and Cameron (Kathie) Waite. She also leaves behind two adoring grandchildren, Stephanie (Nicholas) Grimberg and Kyle Waite. Nana will be sorely missed and lovingly remembered by all of us. Marlene will also be affectionately remembered by Jeffrey (Janet) Cameron, Erin (Mark) Vandermere and family, and Robyn Saunders (Barrett) and family.
At the young age of 18, Marlene started her career in teaching. She attended the Toronto Teachers College and graduated in 1958. Marlene went on to teach in Wyebridge, Gravenhurst, Bracebridge, and Muskoka Falls. Marlene took a break from teaching to raise her family and to help her husband Geoff in the bakery business.
Marlene had a life-long love of learning and was an avid reader and crossword puzzle enthusiast. She loved birds and the many feline companions she had throughout her life. She also had a great love for the game of golf. Marlene was a long-time member of South Muskoka Golf and Curling Club, and spent many happy hours on the course with her golfing partners. She was also an avid bridge player, and a regular in several of the local bridge groups.
Cremation has taken place and Marlene will be interred at St. Thomas’ Anglican Cemetery in a private family grave-side service.
A special heartfelt thanks to all of the wonderful staff at The Pines, Spruce wing. They were like family to her. They were never too busy to share a laugh or to send a selfie using one of those awesome SnapChat filters. It brightened her day and ours to know that she was being so well cared for. We appreciate the care, comfort, and support Mom received throughout her time there, especially during her final days. Our appreciation to Dr. Dechert for her care of our beloved Mom.
Donations to the OSPCA Muskoka Branch in her memory would be much appreciated. Donations of your time to help someone read, or to read to someone would be even more appreciated.
… and always remember when going for those long putts, “Leave it in the basket.”
