Obituary of Marjorie MacDougall
MacDougall (Campbell), Marjorie Louise, Dartmouth, N.S.
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Marjorie at the Dartmouth General Hospital on Tuesday, July 5, 2022. She passed away peacefully surrounded by her family.
Born April 1, 1931 at home in Blenheim, Ontario, Marjorie was the daughter of the late Lorne and Mary (Downie) Campbell. Marjorie is survived by and very proud of her son, Scott, Nashville TN and daughter, Deanne (Brad), Fall River. Her greatest joys are her 3 grandchildren, Rachel, Nicholas and Emma whom she had unwavering support for until her passing. Her relationship with her grandchildren was more than that of a grandmother – she was a mentor, friend and confidante.
Marjorie is also survived by 15 Campbell nieces, nephews, and their extended families, sister in laws – Irene Campbell, Ruth Campbell brother-in-law Ward Uffelman, along with many close and supportive friends. She was predeceased by her brothers Malcolm, Murray (Norma) and Gordon and her sister, Donna (Uffelman), and her nephew Ed, all of Ontario.
Marjorie met Ken MacDougall in 1957 while providing leadership to youth in a camping program in England and Scotland. They maintained contact over the next 4 years and were married in 1962. Marjorie left her family and her career to start her family in Nova Scotia. Marjorie worked as an Executive Assistant for Neilson’s and also for the Halifax International Airport.
Marjorie had been a faithful and active member of Wyndholme Christian Church for many years with the MacDougall family being Charter members. Ken and Marjorie together organized and executed disaster relief volunteer teams for many work projects throughout North America and the Caribbean over 20 years. They also volunteered their time in a multitude of capacities at Johnston Christian Park in South Range, Nova Scotia.
Their house was a gathering spot on the lake for summer and winter activities which always included lots of food and baked goods (especially pies). Marjorie was an amazing cook and provided food to anyone who was visiting or for those in need. Most Friday nights, the Square Dancing Club would be in the basement dancing, as we watched from the stairs. Playing cards was also on the weekly calendar – 45’s, Crib, Boston Rummy and other card games with their close friends for many years which continued with Marjorie’s apartment friends until her recent hospitalization.
Marjorie was very humble and thoughtful. She was kind, honest and respectful to others in their thoughts and beliefs. Her wishes are not to be immortalized in death but to be remembered for her strength, dedication and unconditional love to her family, friends and her faith.
We would like to thank the doctors and nurses at the Dartmouth General in 5E. You cared for mom as if she was your own family. Special thanks to Dr. Edith Baxter for your continued care and support over the last several years.
Cremation has taken place.
