Mom was born in Portage La Prairie, September 19th, 1930 and raised in the Kelvin District and married Joe Warren in 1949. Mom was a great mother, gramma and GG! She loved to bake, especially for her grandkids. She was famous for her tarts – yum! Mom baked pretty much every day and gave the majority of it away. When flyer day came, she would call family and let them know where the deals were. When you went there, the coffee or tea was on the table along with some baking, lickity split and no one over left empty handed! If you left her place hungry, it was your own darn fault!
She always wanted to help you with anything and worried about everyone, even when she was in hospital, she wasn’t worried about herself, she was worried about you and wanted to know how you were. Mom would visit friends and family in hospital and care homes making sure they had some baking or goodies or if they needed anything. Before covid hit she used to love to go and have coffee at MacDonald’s with her friends.
Her Grandchildren were her pride and joy and loved them immensely! Mom kept in touch with all of them making sure they were okay. She never missed a birthday or an occasion and couldn’t wait to see and hear about what they were doing or had accomplished. She was proud of all of them!
Mom worked at Campbell’s Soup for the winter and ended up staying for 30 years. Mom volunteered at the Portage Gun Club, baking and cooking for the shoots and loved every minute of it, while making a lot of friends along the way. Mom also volunteered at the Soup Kitchen.
Mom looked forward to the annual casino trip with her two daughters and sister. They were dubbed The Golden Girls, even had t-shirts made for the next trip…unfortunately that didn’t happen.
Thank you to Dr. Nelson, for the care you gave mom. She valued your friendship, honesty, care and most of all just dropping in for a visit. Everyone should experience his love, humor, compassion and medical expertise. You are awesome and we love you!
Thanks to the nurses, aides and cleaning staff for all you did for Mom!
A private graveside service will be held at a later date.
