Marjorie Joan (Witherell) Price passed away on Friday morning, September 2, 2022, in the Oromocto Hospital. After being admitted to the Dr. Everett Chalmers hospital because of a fall on July 30, she later contracted Covid, a bladder infection, and then Pneumonia while in hospital.
She leaves behind her son Jeff, daughter Kathryn, sister Florence, sisters-in-law Jackie, Darlene, and Olive, many nieces and nephews and their children, and many friends she also considered family. Her family wishes to extend a thank you on her behalf to the community, friends, and care givers who made it possible for her to remain in her own home despite advice to move into care after an extended hospital stay in 2014. She was especially grateful for the day to day care for many years from friends Margaret and Woodrow Brogan, Carl and Carolyn Grant, Martha Galloway, and Robert Thompson.
Born to Josephine (Penton) and Percival Witherell on Oct. 4, 1930, Marjorie grew up in Blissfield, N.B. with siblings Phyllis, Betty, Florence, Ron and Stanley. She attended Teachers’ College, and later earned a B.A., B.ED. and M.A. from U.N.B. After marrying Elwood Price, she spent most of her long teaching career in Chipman, a community she loved. Marjorie believed music, great books, and drama were vital components of education and of life. She was happiest when volunteering her time (and baking skills) to make her community strong. She loved gardening, and many gardens in the Chipman, Fredericton, and Moncton areas are filled with her perennials.
In accordance with her wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service.
Interment will take place at the Chipman Red Bank Cemetery at a later date. Memorial donations can be made to the Chipman Library, Chipman Care “N” Share or the United Church Gifts with Vision Fund.
