Obituary of Maria Sofia DeMacedo
DeMACEDO, Maria Sofia – Peacefully with her family by her side, Maria Sofia passed away at Bluewater Health on Thursday, March 31, 2022 at the age of 87. Beloved wife of the late Joao (John) (2019). Dear mother of Alice Blais (Harvey), Sarnia, Oscar Macedo (Jennifer), London and the late Maria Catarina. Loving vavo of Selina and Austin (Emilie). Sister of Hildeberto (Carmen), Azores and Margarita Pacheco, Sarnia. Sister-in-law of Mariazinha Macedo and Maria Jose Amaral. Sofia will also be missed by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by parents Joao & Maria Conceicao Amaral, brothers John Amaral and Gil Amaral and sister Natalia Teixeira. Sofia was born in the Azores and immigrated to Canada with the love of her life. She and Joao created a wonderful life for their children through their hard work. Sofia enjoyed gardening, loved her flowers, and had a green thumb, bringing back to life any plant she came across. You would never leave Sofia’s home on an empty stomach as she loved cooking and making sure her family was well fed. She always had a full candy dish and container of biscoitos ready for her grandchildren. Sofia’s suffering has now ended and she is at peace in the arms of her beloved husband and reunited with their daughter, Maria Catarina. There will be no funeral home visitation. A private family Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Church. Interment at Our Lady of Mercy Cemetery.
