Obituary
Maria Svistoun
Maria Svistoun passed away peacefully in her sleep on December 28th, 2022, after a brief but courageous fight with cancer. She is survived by her two daughters Zoriana and Anna-Marie Svistoun, as well as her sister Lesia and her mother Nadia who are still in Ukraine.
Maria was born on December 2nd, 1961, in Sokal, Ukraine. She graduated college in 1979 and became a kindergarten teacher. She was always a caring soul and that is evident by the work she did here in Selkirk after she immigrated to Canada in 1990. She worked at Happy Thought School as a translator for two Ukrainian children. She later completed her healthcare aide certificate and worked for Homecare for the Interlake Region, and then later as a healthcare aide at Tudor House.
Maria enjoyed spending her time out in nature, whether that be biking through town, digging in her garden, or going for walks at Birds Hill Park. She was a loving and devoted mother who enjoyed going out for walks with her daughters. She will be dearly missed.
A sincere thank you to the surgery ward, medicine ward and cancer care staff at Selkirk Regional Health Center who took very good care of Maria when she was there.
The funeral will be held on January 6th 2023 at 10:30 a.m. at Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk.
