LOMAS, Margaret Ann (nee Steele)
May 29, 1947—November 16, 2022
Margaret passed away peacefully at Cowichan District Hospital in Duncan, B.C.
She leaves to mourn her sons Alex (Jen) and Bryan; grandchildren Anna and Branson; sisters Jeanette and Wendy (Gord); brother David (Jane); nieces and nephews; close friends. Margaret was predeceased by her parents Alex and Evelyn Steele.
Margaret grew up in Lantzville on Vancouver Island. After finishing high school in Nanaimo, she earned a BA at UBC and then a teaching certificate at SFU. Following graduation, she returned to the Island, where she pursued a long career teaching elementary school. Throughout her career, she worked hard and did her best for her students. While raising her children, she also volunteered at the Boys and Girls Club in Ladysmith.
Margaret always enjoyed the adventure of travelling. During her teaching career, she did exchanges in Scotland and with her boys in Australia. After retiring, she continued to enjoy her travelling adventures with her sister Jeanette and close friends.
She always enjoyed cooking and gardening. After retiring she faithfully pursued fitness training.
She actively participated in TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly). Her dedicated commitment to her walking programs allowed her to participate in a number of 10k Walks. This allowed her time to visit with friends and stay healthy. She inspired us all with her completion of personal goals.
The family is very thankful for the compassionate and supportive care she received from the staff at the Cowichan District Hospital during the last few months of her life.
A Memorial Service will be held in Margaret’s honour at Telfords Funeral Home in Ladysmith on December 5, 2022 at 11:00am.
